DON’T MAKE ME LOOK AT THAT FISHHEAD GUY, OKAY? I GET HUNGRY.
Well, mama and papa went to an art show by that anthro artist, Arcimboldo, who makes portraits of other anthros out of fruits and vegetables and even FISH, like this one:
Or this one:
They are original, that’s for sure.
And sorry to be a bit skittish about this, but mama said that Arcimboldo’s style is NOT her cup of tea…or paint, as the case may be. Certainly the guy was talented but oh, boy, you wouldn’t want to look at this one too long if it were hanging in the kitchen, right? In fact, some of the paintings, in papa’s view, were downright depressing. In my opinion, this is a schtick that Mr. A found to be successful, and you’ll see the famous portrait made with fruit and veggies on many publications like books and calendars and even fabric. Maybe that one was easier to stomach…so to speak. There is no doubt this is a brilliant draftsman, but mama really felt his drawings outshine any of the almost monotonous food portraits.
Well, that’s OUR opinion, but I’m sure there are many others who relish his art (no pun intended again). No question that he was quick on the draw.
In all fairness, here’s one of his works that mama actually did like a lot.
It looks like a mer-family to mama, and is beautifully rendered…everyone with a mermaid tail, and I kind of like that guy over on the left with someone on his head. Mama would have liked to have seen more of these instead of the fruit faces.
She says that a little goes a long way.
I’m really having to take a long rest after counting all the fish in that guy’s face. I still think I missed a couple…
That is some weird art, Loulou.
Pee ess…we wish we knew how to make it so your name, etc. stayed populated on our site when you leave a comment, but we really don’t know how to do that. The same thing happens to us on your site as well.
Well, BOO. I am going to ask my BOO-ru if he can get regular commenters’ names automatically on my site. My name, email and website is automatic on several sites.
Not my cup of tea either even if I do appreciate the talent of the artist.
I think there is something sick about it.
Well, mama says it’s hard to take when so many are in a room!!!
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Have a great weekend too…
Noodle and crew
Boy, Noodle, do we love your blog. But those who could learn from it are not the ones commenting, I’m pretty sure. Still…a GREAT blog. Loved the squirrel story.
OOOOOH-LA! Mama says she could imagine fish-face hanging in the kitchen, but veggie-girl is sorta scary. Well, so is fish-face – but it’s so incredibly designed and painted! Do you think maybe he got into your nip?
Hey, that’s probably what happened!!! Mama was surprised that she simply is not a fan and yes, an incredible draftsman, but subject matter gets old after seeing so many of the same thing. Sometimes he tries too hard.
The ones that make me dizzy (not counting Escher, which is a given) are Hieronymous Bosch & Peter Bruegel. So much detail – and then you can’t UNsee it.
What a great way to put it. YES, UN-SEEING it is so difficult!!! I get dizzy with those two, too. Maybe if they were animated–I could watch that all day, haha. Like Harry Potter works of art…
Well, they aren’t our cup of vegetable fish soup either. Did you ever figure out how many fish there are in that first one?
Oh, Jan, we love you so much but to count the fish? Maybe on a rainy day with nothing else to do. GOOD question, though. I wonder if Mr. A knew?
