Oh, pooh, that turkey flew away!
BONJOUR AND THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR SO MANY WONDERFUL MOMENTS YOU HAVE GIVEN US IN YOUR WRITINGS.😻
William Merwin was the Poet Laureate of the USA some years ago. Mama loves this poem for this very special day, and this is to brighten your morning.
VARIATION ON A THEME
Thank you my lifelong afternoon
late in this season of no age
thank you for my windows above the rivers
thank you for the true love you brought me to
when it was time at last and for words
that come out of silence and take me by surprise
and have carried me through the clear day
without once turning to look at me
thank you for friends and long echoes of them
and for those mistakes that were only mine
for the homesickness that guides the young plovers
from somewhere they loved before
they woke into it to another place
they loved before they ever saw it
thank you whole body and hand and eye
thank you for sights and moments known
only to me who will not see them again
except in my mindʻs eye where they have not changed
thank you for showing me the morning stars
and for the dogs who are guiding me
late in this season of no age
thank you for my windows above the rivers
thank you for the true love you brought me to
when it was time at last and for words
that come out of silence and take me by surprise
and have carried me through the clear day
without once turning to look at me
thank you for friends and long echoes of them
and for those mistakes that were only mine
for the homesickness that guides the young plovers
from somewhere they loved before
they woke into it to another place
they loved before they ever saw it
thank you whole body and hand and eye
thank you for sights and moments known
only to me who will not see them again
except in my mindʻs eye where they have not changed
thank you for showing me the morning stars
and for the dogs who are guiding me

PS There is one word mama might have changed in this poem….can you spot it? That’s a hint, haha.
What a lovely poem. Thanks for sharing it with us on this day of thanks. I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving. That turkey looks so good!
SO glad you like the poem. Mama loves his poetry. He was actually mama and papa’s brother in law and an amazing man.Started long ago a fantastic palm forest on Maui to save the land around his home….
What a totally fabulous Thanksgiving post….and photo of your Mama and Papa. We had a nice “turkey day” here. Small turkey breast with ALL the fixings and while I don’t eat any “people food” and never have – Mom gave me a tiny dish of gravy which I enjoyed!!!! We are so happy to have you ALL as our friends – it’s the greatest and best gift of all.
Hugs, Teddy and Mom Pam
We feel exactly the same way, you beautiful Teddy, and we love your mama and papa and the gravy you scored, haha. Much love from here. Now for Noel…..
WOW! What a great poem, sweet Angel LouLou and lovely to see your mommy and daddy too. Such a beautiful couple💗We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Enough talking, can we have a bite of that chick now, please😸😸Double Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend to all of you🐾😽💞
I saved you some…
Merci for all, we love W. S Merwin’s poetry. Uplifting often.
Love the picture! Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for all you do!
Merci, Ms L. And happy leftovers to you.
Dogs to cats??
That is a great bit of poetry about gratitude. Having an attitude of Gratitude is the first step towards being happy.
Your turkey looks so yummy! Our wee breast filled us up, only a tiny bit of leftovers.
We had roasted tiny potatoes, brussel sprouts and some butternut squash on a sheet pan…and I made a gingery cranberry sauce. Son #1 brought some artisan bread, (YUM), and I also m=had made an orange cranberry bread. I didn’t make stuffing/dressing though. For the vegan, I made black bean chili, falafel balls and lentil burgers. We feasted and almost had no room for the chocolate raspberry cheesecake, for dessert, LOL! (that was vegan too…)
Oh and before all that I roasted some chestnuts. That was a new item for all of us, not too bad…might do it again soon.
OMC….what a DINNER! Love your cooking ideas and those roasted chestnuts are great with salt and olive oil, anything to help them slide down. They are a tradition on all street corners in Rome and mama is always tempted but takes along her salt and oil, haha. So holiday-ish those roasting chestnuts.
Dogs to cats? We are very thankful for you and your mama, Loulou.
YEP…but of course both are halpers, and we, too, are thankful for you, Ms Militza.
I pray you and your family have had a blessed and beautiful Happy Thanksgiving!
Merci, messymimi, and we did and hope you did, too.
Such a nice post! Happy Thanksgiving from all of us!

Thanks for being our friend. Mom says she hasn’t had enough coffee to spot the word your Mom changed, but the poem is lovely.
HAHA, more coffee always works the brain better. No matter about the word, just love the day beginning with good coffee.
