Anchovies at our fish market…num, num. Toss them in flour, salt and pepper and sauté in olive oil until crisp, about 5 minutes.
Well, here in our little ville there is going to be an anchovy festival on June 1st and I will personally take some candid shots of the goings-on and get them to you in a blog next week if I can balance the camera. Mama always thought “candid” meant “candied” and that the photographs were somehow going to become desserts! Duh…
There seem to be a lot of those things, like Gladly, the Cross-Eyed Bear, which was actually “Gladly, the cross I’d bear” from a hymn in mama’s church long ago.
So funny, my mama’s mistakes.
And she also thought that Welsh Rarebit was Welch Rabbit but could never find the animal in the cheese, haha.
Do you see any ears in this photo? Or whiskers, haha?
But, I digress.
We love fish around here, mainly because there is a lot of it and her are some of the beauties in our fish market in a little town nearby called Port Vendres.
These guys make a great soup, also in Italy where it sometimes has broccoli in it.
Sea scallops called coquilles St. Jacques, called that because of this from Transparent Blog (thank you).
Saint Jacques or Saint James was one of the 12 Apostles and the scallop shell is the symbol of the crusaders of the Order of St. James, which was founded to protect pilgrims headed to Santiago de Compostela. The story goes that St. James saved a drowning knight’s life and the knight came out of the water covered in scallop shells. It is also said that the body of St. James, himself, was lost in the ocean on the way to Spain for burial and later washed ashore covered in scallops. There are also other versions. In any case, the order and the French dish were named in his honor.
These are little red rock fish in back and dorade in the foreground, a kind of sea bass.
These are the cheeks of the lotte, or monkfish in the USA. Delicious sautéed in olive oil and served with lemon.
And this is a nice bar (another kind of sea bass) with roast potatoes and rosemary.
And my favorites–sardines! But of course, I only get a little bite of the anthros’ dinner!
Still, kitties and fish are like love and marriage, right?
Oh LouLou…all those fishies. Me doesn’t like fishy. Mommy says there’s some salmon in me’s freeze dried food, but me didn’t know dat was a fishy. Mommy doesn’t typically feed fish to kitties cuz it can cause or at least contribute to so many diseases and illnesses. Since me’s never really ate fish, me doesn’t like it. But it does look like you will have a great meal there. Enjoy.
Luv ya’

Actually, I just dream about fresh fish. My fish comes in Purina cod, carrelet, tuna and salmon and I do well with it. But it is cooked. That’s why it’s safe, I think. Raw fish can have parasites and things, whatever they are!
Me doesn’t really know LouLou, but it’s da minerals and stuffs dat can be dangerous to kitties. Things like copper and zinc and ash and stuffs. But we say ifin you’re doin’ well, then more power to you. Fishies are good in da Omegas, and we fur sure need those. MOL

I try to give Loulou small fish, because little fish do not have all the baddies in them as do the biggies like tuna and swordfish, etc. Thank you for helping me think about this. She really eats processed cat food anyway by Purina and Light Adult Science Plan to keep her weight down.
All those fishies are a kitty’s dream come true. I always thought it was rabbit too, I never had it so I didn’t know.
Well, fishies can really make you crazy. Especially if THEY are eating them and forget me.
All that fish…YUM!
It’s a great market, and many kitties are sort of hanging around outside waiting for scraps. A wonderful meeting place.
We didn’t realize you have so many fresh sea items to eat there. Sounds like a good meal will be had by all.
That was only a fraction of what they catch here. And so many kitties outside the fish market. I wonder why?
