Well, since mama’s not here, I’ve been pulling out some old photos, unpublished, of our dear little open market, which is going strong in this beautiful weather THAT MAMA IS MISSING! Along with ME.
Below is Eric, our local baker, who does some bang-up pastries like raspberry tarts, and those little rich corn pastries that are so prevalent around here. His breads are really delicious and have thick, lovely crusts.
And below is our goat cheese purveyor who sells the most delicious ricotta for mama’s ricotta cake.
Well, I won’t be having any of THAT IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS, WILL I? Sigh…
And this guy is taking meat into our REAL BUTCHER, who actually cuts up things to sell as in the old days before supermarket packaging.
Wish I were trailing along behind him…he might just drop a little morsel here and there.
And here is the window of one of our bakeries. On the left you will see bunyettes, which are a pastry flavoured with orange flower water and deep fried to a golden crispiness. Very light and dusted with sugar, they appear in the bakeries during holidays or special days.
Uh, oh, my Kitty Whisperer is calling me for dinner. She is probably going to GIVE ME SOMETHING SPECIAL AND WONDERFUL, you hear that, mama?
I’m outta here…
OMC…our mom wants to come live with you Loulou; though, she’s afraid she’d weigh 300 pounds. That bread…yummy, yummy, yummy. Hope your parents are having fun on their island vacation. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Actually it is not a vaction but a visit to papa’s sister who needs him and mama right now, but I think they’ll have a nice time in that beautiful place anyway.
Aww, you have the nicest looking of towns, I wish mine was like that. Nothing here is really nice as too dull and rainy, also to much traffic. I hopes you got a special treat from your kitty whisperer?
She is sneaking me things but I’m not supposed to let on…
I like it that it is still possible to get such tasty things…thanks for the idea, we will visit our market on saturday too :ol)
Yes, and I’ll bet they have scraps at the butcher for free.
Poor Loulou, we’re sure your mama miss you as much as you do. That’s a lovely market ! Purrs
Oh, she does, she does.
The market looks a lovely place to shop. My mum loves proper freshly baked bread, not the tasteless pre-sliced prepackaged muck that the supermarkets sell. She always goes to a real butcher where you know the meat has been hung properly. More expensive but so much more flavour and tenderness.
She has to get mama’s book and bake her OWN!!!
Oooh, my mouth is watering!!! I could use some of that cheese (yummm) and bits from the big animal that was just, err, tué (OMG Loulou THANK GOD – or BUDDAH – we’re not in China!!!! – EEK) but I prefer my animal in Caesar paté which Maman keeps hidden in a drawer I haven’t figured out how to open. Hey – where’s the rotisserie chicken truck. Here’s a thought – we could hi-jack it and have a HUGE picnic – non? But don’t tell anybody of our plan.
OH, BOY, now that’s a picnic. How many chickens?
I am glad you are getting such great care even though you are missing your Mama.
Oh, Sue is a dream. HEAR THAT, MAMA?
haha, sounds like you’re having a good time with the cat whisperer, Loulou. Enjoy whatever tidbits she has for you.
She is nothing but enjoyment!
THAT BELLY!!!! Gorgeous 🙂
Well, I’m working on the waist…sometimes it’s not evident when I puff up.
Oh MeOW LouLou, dat is so innerestin’. Mommy of course got da big eyes at all dat yummy lookin’ bread. And OMC a cheese truck. But our fave was da meat draped over da shoulders there. We would fur sure be followin’ dat guy. MOL Enjoy your yummy special treats.
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
I know, wasn’t that meat something? I couldn’t get out to visit him, sigh…
