Here I am, zonked on kiwi leaves. Does anyone have any info about lolling around in these things? Mama took them all away when she thought she observed that I was…er…well…zonked a little too much.
In Japan, evidently, kiwi is like catnip to kitties. But here, who knows?
Any info would be welcome. We certainly have a lot of them so my stash will never run out but even I think I was a little weird after rolling. Maybe an illusion. I don’t seem to like the catnip now that it’s blooming so maybe kiwi leaves are summer’s stash, haha.
Do you think that mama’s Japanese shisu might do the same thing? It’s for decorating sushi.
Hey, just leave me the maki and all the raw ingredients, okay?
You say that papa ATE the salmon for the sushi??? MAAAMAAA…..!

Oh, I forgot to say Happy July (juillet) yesterday.
Kitties like to hang out with kiwi plants, LouLou, just like catnip, so your mom is right about this. I have to ask Granny for one too☺ Your Selfies are adorable❤Pawkisses for a happy day🌞❤
I just love taking selfies. I guess I’m a little vain….
Hmm… I don’t know anything about Kiwi leaves, but they look like they make a nice crunchy nest! And if they smell even half as good as nip, then I bet they smell pretty terrific! Do they grow wild in your garden, Loulou? Hugs!
They grew up and around our fence from our wonderful neighbor’s garden, which is full of everything imaginable and LOTS of kiwis. He put the…er…leavings of Pompinette and the four donkeys on the ground around his kiwi plant and bammo–up it came and grew in our yard, too. They are amazingly good and yes, the leaves are seriously addicting.
We’ve never heard of kiwi leaves, but if they are like catnip, you should start harvesting them in case there’s ever a catnip shortage.
Hey, great idea. I can sell them to the neighbourhood kitties if their stashes run out!
You sure look happy rolling around in those kiwi leaves!! Mama found this on the internet, so you may be on to (or ON) something good! Here’s the cut and paste:
Kiwis are in the same genus as a plant called Silver vine (Actinidia), which is used in Asia the same way as catnip is used in Europe and North America. Both plants contain the active ingredient actinidine.
Catnip’s active chemical, by the way, is called nepetalactone.
Voila – bon nip!!!!
THANK YOU. Yes, nepeta something or other is what I order for seeds so mama can plant my nip. THANKS for letting me know I’m not getting stoned on something bad!
Evidently kiwi plants are somewhat “like” catnip or silver vine and cats are attracted to it.

Pests: No significant problems. Cats find the foliage addictive, like catnip.
Well, I’m all for this, but mama thinks I’m a bit weird after I roll in it. Hey, it works, right? Thank you for the info.
I think maybe silvervine comes from a kiwi plant but I’m not real sure. Silvervine is way more potent than catnip!
Oh, boy, maybe mama will cut me back to a leaf or two, not a whole VINE!
Papa had salmon and didn’t share- that is so wrong.
NO, NO he finally shared. I don’t want to give a bad impression of papa. He gave in.
Wow, LouLou – I had no idea ! Are these the same kiwis that are little green fizzy things with lots of seeds ? (I know they’re not the fuzzy bird from New Zealand.)
Yes, they are the sometimes fuzzy things but the ones here are not fuzzy right now and they are lemon flavoured. When ours ripen, THEY are fuzzy but these summer ones are smooth.
Now I’ve NO idea about them there leaves, but it sounds like you have the answer to every cats summer nip shortage problem! MOL
Sorry about the salmon, if you liked it that was. Me, I’ll stick with cream mice and nip sushi.
Purrs, ERin
Wow, cream mice and nip sushi!!! Come over here and teach me how to make THOSE.
