Hey, got a minute?
Well, papa suggested that I put in a link to an article about UMBC, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, a school that is not only innovative in its curricula, but also the school that recently beat the top-ranking N C A A basketball team in the USA the other night, the University of Virginia, leaving everyone a bit overwhelmed. A university that stresses higher education and also has an awesome athletic program that astounded all!
Now you may be asking yourself, why is Loulou interested in this university and its basketball team and I would have to answer, it’s not the basketball that attracted all of us in this family, but the story about how a university operates to provide extraordinary education to its students and still goes on to be the tops in the N C A A. If you have time to read the article, please take a look.
It feels so uplifting to know that there is a university like UMBC that sends 40% of its students into graduate programs, at places like Harvard and Stanford. “It’s a campus where you come because you want to be a serious student, no matter your background, across disciplines” says Dr. Hrabowski, a man who had led the university for 26 years. In fact, UMBC sends more minorities than any other college to further studies, MBA, Phds, etc.
I know it’s hard to read articles in links when you are asked to, but mama and papa and I felt that this one was so uplifting and its message so full of promise that we’re just going to ask anyway. And thank you for taking a look, whenever you get a minute…maybe when your adorable furry friends are taking a snooze so you’re not distracted by rubbing their tummies.

On a sadder note, the last white rhinoceros on earth has just died in Kenya. Perhaps his spirit will come back to haunt all of the hunters who contributed to this very unfortunate day.
Ciao, Sudan. The world will miss you and your species.
We are sad to hear about the rhino. But we hear they may try some artificial insemination with the females that are left. Not sure about that though….
Yes, they are going to try…we’ll see. I just hope they stay as cute as they are!
Wow – Dr Habrowski should immediately replace Betsy DeVos as the leader of Education!! Well, maybe a future administration will take note since this won’t likely be on Fox News. Do I sound cynical?
That was such sad news abut Sudan the Rhino, but mama read yesterday they did gather several batches of sperm before his departure – but the only two females of that species left aren’t good candidates. So – they may try to harvest eggs from one – but has never been done so it could be fatal! No good solution. Then I guess they would have to find a surrogate hippo….. Shame on people who kill animals for sport. How do they live with what they “do for fun and ego” – ?
That is very sad about the rhino.
Loulou, I don’t see any link.
Re. Sudan, it seems there is a possibility to perpetuate the specy through his daughter and great daughter (Samples taken from Sudan)!
Well, I’ll check the link but I’m sure others read the article.
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THE LINK OMISSION!😺
The UMBC team name is “the Retrievers.” Just sayin…
Had not heard about the rhino. I wonder if there are any cells banked for cloning ? There are banks set aside to preserve cells of plants and animals. Of course last week in Cleveland at one of the major hospitals a freezer failed and lots of cells were compromised. Nothing is for sure,
Mama asked the same question when she heard about Sudan. I hope they have his cells for cloning. The dna of a rhino must be fascinating…
Thank you for the name. I believe it is in the article also.
Yes, they have cells.
On the NewsHour they just said Sudan had fathered two daughters who were on the reserve with him and they hoped to breed them with some of his sperm which was banked.
YAY…but wait a minute. Daughters? Can one DO that? Will they be mentally stable? Oh, lordy, such questions.
