I can smell that soup even over all this night-blooming jasmine!
Well, mama just wrote me that last night she and papa took three lovely ladies (all approaching 80–so they are celebrating their sweet friendships with a trip to Italy!) whom they knew from Lost Angeles (LOULOU, it’s LOS ANGELES, not LOST!) to dinner next door to their apartment, and they ordered a steak for four people (there were five but mama wanted pasta) and after having eaten all the tasty bits before the cow arrived, no one could finish the meat. Are you kidding?
Mama asked to have everything left over put in a kitty bag, haha, to take home (next door) and today, even ALONE (!) here in my little garden, I can smell the broth made by throwing everything left over into a pot along with onions, carrots, a tomato (for balance, she says) and whatever was left over in a dish from yesterday’s lunch–they are called “agretti” and are steamed and eaten with olive oil and lemon–so she stirred those in, too, and that elixir is sending its perfume all the way to France!
Can you imagine having a nice bone left over from dinner and NOT HAVING ME THERE TO FINISH IT OFF? The nerve!
She even put in the leftover chunks of roasted potatoes.
Maybe she’ll bring some home with her for my dining pleasure…
I just hope she doesn’t put those leftover bits of Pecorino cheese in that pot! I like mine plain.
HEY! THERE IS NO STEAK IN HERE! I’m calling the maître d’hotel!
Gee, Loulou – we could have really helped them out, huh!? Well, I think something’s up – suitcases and bags of stuff in front of the door…….that always means ROAD TRIP!!!! UGH. Well, maybe I’ll get some tasty Italian scraps from the table. Will keep you posted. If they don’t start giving us steak, I think we have to do the very French thing (being totally french girls, nous) – en GREVE – strike! Not sure on what, but we’ll think of something…….
Well, I think mama actually froze some of that juice for me! Not that it will last on a boat when they return!!!
Yumm, leftovers can be great!
Mama says leftovers are the backbone of her culinary productions.
What fun that your mama has old friends staying in the apt next door. Must have been some meal if they were all too full to do justice to the steaks. But at least the meat didn’t go to waste.
Actually they were staying a bit down the road but the restaurant they went to is next door to mama and papa. VERY convenient. Of course, they asked where I was….HEY, where am I?
Wow ! We can almost smell that over here in the US of A ! I hope you get at least a sip !
I think mama might freeze some to bring back….
