Well, Mya’s maman once again sent a sweet story of love to me, knowing how schmaltzy I get over love stories. And how I get even more aw-shucksy over happy endings. This might bring a sunbeam to your day, as it did to mine amidst the rain. Yes, water is coming down, it’s cold and wintry and mama is drinking ginger/lemon/honey tea to ward off evil spirits.
Actually she’s also gargling with her own ancient wine vinegar, which I find a bit weird without the olive oil and lettuces, but she swears it will knock out a scratchy throat…probably petrifies the bugs!
Diluted, of course. The vinegar, not the bugs, haha.
But seriously, folks, we’ve been pretty healthy around here for a while, and we do NOT want any sniffles coming in to mess up the holidays.
If those baaaad cold thingies are “hoovering”* around YOUR nose, whiz up some fresh ginger (6 oz.) in a blender, cover with water in a pan and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain into a storage container, add 2 spoons of nice honey or maple syrup (!) and the juice of two big lemons. Sip during the day to ward off evil.
Or do as I do–curl up with your tail and bury yourself in a nice fluffy, warm duvet. Sleep.
It will cure anything that ails you.
Or just feel really, really good.
😸😸😸
(*Mama’s friend’s grandmother used to say ‘hoovering’ instead of ‘hover’ and she use to ask her granddaughter to go out and buy her a six-pack of Zup–read: 7Up. Oh, those Texans. But now we say ‘hoover’ if Mya’s around, and she cleans up the floor!)
Hey, Mya, that kid dropped his ice cream!
Oh LouLou, mommy says a little oil of peppermint dropped down the throat will do the trick too, as will pure lemon juice. And, it tastes much better. MOL Big hugs
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
Oh, mama LOVES peppermint! What a good idea, Dezi and Raena. I think Santa is going to bring mama some…from me! They have it everywhere around here.
Oh my! Hope the vinegar mix chased away those nasty buys!!! An old New Orleans remedy would be to add cayenne pepper to the gargle! And one day on the morning news, they explained how it actually worked – the cayenne helped get rid of the surface cells and new, healthy ones pushed through! Voila. Mama is a sucker for love stories too – and that was certainly an unusual one!! And yes, Hoover is my call to action!!
Mya, wish you were here to clean up the odds and ends on MY floor. Mama dropped some KIBBLE!!! And mama’s gargling with her vinegar but made a fish soup with HOT peppers.
The donkey and emu story has been seen all over the place but this is the first time we’ve stopped to read it. Being abandoned is lonely – for anyone or any animal. Glad they bonded to get through it.
Jan is struggling to not get sick in this horrible weather. Keeps changing.
Eat lots of citrus, mama says, and try to eat the white part, too, not just the pulp. And gargle every day with a little cider vinegar diluted with a bit of water. Germs HATE vinegar. And lemon juice! But drink LOTS OF WATER. More than you want.
We like the idea of sleeping. 🙂
Yes, does seem to be the remedy for all….
The old Northern Ohio recipe for a sore throat is to gargle with hot-as-you-can-handle salt water. The caveat is : after you do this for awhile, you lose your gag reflexes. But if you swallow any of it, they come right back !
Yes, salt water was mama’s mama’s cure, too, but mama’s vinegar is a bit stronger and seems to work. But we’ll try the salt, too, thank you.
