Being sacked out is in my nature…is it in yours?
Well, some days don’t you just feel like kickin’ back and contemplating the winter’s day and the beautiful sunsets and the braying of donkeys in the distance (sort of) and the lovely smells of woodsmoke from the little fireplaces in the fishermen’s cottages of our village.
And then, a train goes by in the distance, which is pretty rare lately, but still…trains were big in mama’s childhood and she used to run out the whole length of the yard at her grandma’s house and wave at the conductor and then the caboose person, whoever that is.
I’m pretty sure trains nowadays do NOT have cabooses, or do they? Mama even remembers standing on the caboose’s platform, leaning against the railing long ago, on a passenger train, and watching the world recede as they sped along. Mama loves trains–I’m sure you’ve have the picture by now.
But I, thinking of all that rocking and rolling and speed and starting and stopping, just want to lie here by the fire and imagine train travel…
But every now and then, I find myself saying “choo choo, choo, choo”…whatever that is.
But I do sort of resemble a caboose, no?
Hey, Choo choo…eh…LouLou, you don’t look like a caboose at all, but super cute😺Pawkisses for a Happy Day🐾😽💞
Oh, I’m so glad not to be a caboose. Hello to you two and thanks for visiting.
My momma used to take the train for 2-3 days journeys. It was fun when she was a kid! They had one or more cars called Vista-Domes that were upstairs and you could see all around you from this gigantic bubble.
And it was always fun to walk from car to car and it would sway back and forth between cars and you could lean over the railings if you dared. It was like a carnival ride- the fun house which is not around much anymore either.
They never took a berth (with beds) so they all just slept in their seats or the older kids (8 or older) might sleep in seats in the vista dome cars. Kids had so much freedom then. It wasn’t so much of a scary world as it is now.
She says “ Ahh the old days” now!
Oh, your momma was lucky like mine to have been on those great trains. But mama says it’s pretty nice on the TGV fast train that really goes like a bat out of hell. But trains used to have dining cars and beds and that must have been fun, too. Papa remembers the Domes!
We had no idea what a caboose was, so We had to look it up.
No – We don’t think you look like a cabose. You are much too sweet and furry…
Oh, thank you. I needed that…I didn’t like bringing up the rear….
Hey Loulou, Have you ever heard of SKimbleshanks? You should look him up.
WILL DO. RIGHT NOW. I trust your suggestions implicitly, whatever that means.
Oooh – mama loves the trains, too – and misses the one that went past her little fisherman’s cottage there. It would roll by several times a day and sound was nice. For me? The train is that thing mama gets into and disappears for several days – but comes back with a new toy for me. And she’s always happy to be BACK when she gets out of that thing, train. And I think she has one for you, too, Loulou, from that last trip …….
No way, really? Well, I hope I won’t offend her by staring at it and thinking what on earth. I seem to be a really weird kitty who lives in my cerebellum, whatever that is. But I look forward to my toy. Your mama probably has better ideas than MINE!
LOL – not at all – but your mama can put some weed inside its little velcro pouch ……
Hey, sounds really good to me, Mya’s maman.
Jan remembers short trips into town on a train. It was okay. She’s glad humans aren’t still taking long trips by train or stagecoach – especially stagecoach.
Isn’t that someone who teaches you to act, haha? That would have been a wild ride on the bumps around here.
Last summer I was at a railroad crossing for a freight of 100 cars and there was a caboose at the end !
Oh, my gosh, I hope you had a sandwich with you…
NO, you are too cute to be a caboose :)The train track is about a mile away, but we can hear the horn several times a day.
Well, ours is just at the foot of a hill but there are not many that pass in a day, maybe one or two. But I love them.
You look like a very cute caboose 🙂 Happy Sunday Selfie!
Oh, thank you. I’m practicing to bring up the rear, haha.
