Hey, mama, could you call me when those radishes are ready and I’ll snap a photo for you. Slicing those babies was EXHAUSTING…
Well, mama has tried out a new recipe for the radishes she adores, you remember, the ones that came up all on their own with NO effort? After having eaten ALL of those, today at the market mama found the most amazing globes that were as big as golf balls and just as solid, so she made the very tasty marinated radishes recipe that Mary Mc Neil kindly sent last week:
2 cups firm radishes sliced thin
1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
2 teaspoons of sugar (mama cut this a bit from 2 tablespoons)
Nice pinch of salt (mama added this to offset the sweet)
Nice grate of fresh pepper (mama added this just because)
You may also flavor with cilantro, dill, ginger, parsley, basil, or a tiny bit of lemon thyme, but not all together (!), cut very fine, but these radishes are really good as is–vinegar, sugar, pinch of salt. Or you might use lemon juice instead of vinegar. Ah, the combinations are endless…
Well, that’s it for my report. I personally wouldn’t touch a radish with a ten-foot pole but if they are round, they are great fun to chase, haha.
Radishes are not good for cats, LouLou, but they are truly delicious for humans. I love that slight burn on your tongue and the crunchiness of them. Yum!
Jan used to eat radishes. Rarely sees them any more. We don’t think we’d care for any, thank you.
No, kitties and radishes don’t mix well. But fun to bat around.
Glad the recipe was a good one ! I believe radishes are distantly related to Jack-in-the-pulpits (you can eat their bulbs too, but only at certain stages, as I remember a long-ago class on outdoor ed.) They have little crystals in them that cause the tang- some more powerful than others !
I think they are also blood-cleaners or something like that. Will research more but LOVE the recipe.
