Mama writes that in Texas there is a plethora (love that word!) of family—cousins, brother, second cousins, cousins by marriage, maybe even third cousins or great nieces and nephews, but mama doesn’t want “great” before anything describing her…

Two of these cousins seem to be sitting on a couple of pieces of Texas that are really breathtakingly beautiful…one is in The Hill Country where spectacular oaks are the stars of the scenarios and another one breeds and raises cattle in South Texas where the horizon seems to go on forever and mama says you feel as if you are automatically transported to Zen meditation, just watching the deer have dinner at automatic feeders and the little quail strutting around picking up leftovers.

I guess all those stories about Texas are fairly true (but you have to watch out about Texans; papa says mama exaggerates somethin’ awful, but of course, never about ME—it’s all true), and Texas is definitely worth a detour, as they say in travel articles. But mama says everything is really BIG…big plates of food, big hats, big land, big SUVs and trucks and longhorn steers (the little shorn sheep were the only small things mama and papa saw on their travels—they looked like those Russian cats except they baaaaaahhhhed….).

I guess I wouldn’t fit in there very well, lil’ ole me.

But I might check out that Shitsu that mama’s brother and sister-in-law have, just for companionship, of course–he’s my kissin’ cousin…
