Okay, okay, it’s old photo time but also that time of year again, and we are so GLAD that at least we have broad beans in the garden if nothing else! Mama planted only about a six-foot line of beans last October (as the moon waned – advice from our guru neighbor, Jean Riere) and lo and beanhold, up they came like gangbusters, whatever those are.
And the crop, because of our weird weather, is about double last year’s bounty.
SO…today mama is, one guess, shelling and shelling and I’m not much help, being all thumbs, haha.
Still, if she didn’t pick today, these babies would surely have become has-beans….
HEY, these are weeds, not beans!
That’s a lot of beans, Loulou!
Well, I shelled most of them, haha.
Well, they are NOT like tuna….
Wow! Those are beautiful beans!! Mama has never cooked a bean in her life, but once Cours Saleya opens up (whenever that will be), she will be buying more fresh veggies! Caponata and baked asparagus and salads only goes so far…….
Are you kidding? That’s gourmet stuff!! Fresh broad beans are wonderful steamed for about 5 minutes, then drained and tossed with sage and garlic toasted in olive oil, a a squeeze of lemon. Some open markets sell them already shelled. Mama has her work cut out…
Mama saving that recipe!!!!!!!!
Well, broad beans are very healthy and don’t have…er…gas…and taste SOOO good.
They look so good.
Mama is freezing them.
Wow ! Beans already ! We had snow again this morning, and probably will overnight again.
SNOW? Wow. Long winter, it seems.
