Hey, Italy gave England a hard time…maybe it will happen again.
Well, our poor Italy did not do so well in the match against Costa Rica, but I suffered through while mama and papa were counting up the off sides…ELEVEN!!! And most of those, I could see for myself, were when players were at the very END of Costa Rica’s defense line and could see right down the line to make sure they would be on sides when the ball was kicked.
Oh, boy, soccer wears me out.
But Italy is my team and I have to stand behind them. It’s just that if I WERE behind them, I’d whisper in their little ears that maybe they should be aware that I AM behind them and will take them down in split second—that or take the ball away if they don’t bug out pretty fast!!! And they can put all their eggs in Balotelli’s basket, so to speak…I mean, just how much can you ask of one guy? The pressure itself is enough to make you miss the goal!
Hey, it’s just a game, right? Well, no, it’s the World Cup, thank you very much. Papa and mama were heros when they decided, two World Cups ago, to jump in the car with their two grandkids and DRIVE to Rome for the final instead of watching in France where they couldn’t make a peep about Italy or hang out the Italian flag. Instead, they grabbed the kids (who were on their way to the beach, sad not to be in Rome), threw them in the car, drove to Liguria, spent the night, drove to Rome, saw the final of France/Italy with all of the family and when Italy WON, hit the streets until two in the morning, then slept a few hours, jumped in the car and headed back to their vacation in France and were on the beach after 48 hours of what can only be called great fun and emotional wonder at the things that can be achieved in life!!!
2006
Of course, I wasn’t on the scene yet or I would have been in that back seat with those two kids waving the red, white and green and singing, “Italia, Italia” with the best of them.
I’m not sure we are headed that way this time…BUT…the French team was spectacular and now moving on to more wins, I hope. There was revelry in the streets here last night but I was too tuckered out to raise a glass…
But “FORZA, ITALIA” anyway. I’m going to watch every match and send those guys coraggio, especially if they move forward and have to play…uh, oh…BRAZIL.
Holy tamale….
Well, your family certainly leads an interesting, and sometimes spontaneous, life.
We’re just soccer nuts, that’s the reason these things happen, but I wasn’t around yet or they would have thrown ME in the car for a 48 hour trip, and I’m not sure that’s my cup of catnip!!
