Well, mama, papa and I feel strongly about immigrants and immigration. Weren’t we and aren’t we all immigrants in the USA? Funny how some forget that…
The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus (interesting name, no?)
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
History of this.
thoughtful Loulou. People forget things conveniently. Now I’m OK I don’t care about you – heartless and weird.
Well, maybe we can change that a little, each of us.
The US was formed by immigrants. We shouldn’t forget this. But for some reason, people do.
Weird, isn’t it and even the American Indians came from another land long ago.
It’s something to think about – you’re right – we are a country of immigrants yet some can conveniently forget that. Blindness is not just in the eyes, it’s also in the heart of some.
Hugs, Teddy
Oh, a perfect way to put it and a blind heart will do NO ONE any good.
We learn so much from different cultures, Loulou. How boring the world would be if we were all the same, and didn’t chat and socialise with each other.
Snoresville, indeed Ms Militza…all the same is not a fun game.
It is a good thing. What needs to be remembered is we cannot take in the whole world so there have to be reasonable limits enforced, as every country does. This needs to be done with compassion, too.
It’s also a kindness to remember in many cases, people do not want to leave their own country but feel forced to. Perhaps for them it would be better to have a policy of helping them create the kind of democracy right where they are which could give them the life they want, right in their own land.
Oh, very good thoughts, but oh, so difficult when so many countries are run by autocrats who bleed their inhabitants dry ad keep everything for themselves while others starve.
My family were imigrants too but they did it the legal way. Our neighbor is from Mexico and he is really ticked, he waited 4.5 years to come to the USA and spent a fair amount of money. It’s really not nice to jump the line.
No it is not nice and if the partisan agreement on immigration was not shot down by TRUMP, we might have a reasonable solution to some immigration! What a turkey! And he is mentally losing it daily! So many videos of him falling apart at the seams. A danger to all.
Ah LouLou, most of us are immigrants or are descendants of immigrants. Your reminder is a good one.
We really are and we are so lucky to be in the USA unless it is destroyed by Trump and the MAGA maniacs!!! Good thoughts from us for the election to settle his craziness once and for all.
Beautiful. XO
Merci, Ms E. We love that poem….and your book titles!
Loulou, we all need good reminding of this. At one time, we became great because if immigration. Now we just bicker and pick on new peoples.
Oui, and heartlessly often. Some in the world do NOT wish to be reminded but maybe their Bohenian gradmother did not make luscious kolaches, as did mama’s!
That is so true. People forget the recent past so quickly, that it is hardly surprising they forget the distant past that saved their lives. May your poetry always shine, Loulou, just like your life and the pleasure you bring.
ERin
Awww…merci Erin the wonder kitty! We love hearing from you and need to visit more…
