No, no this is NOT me when I was young and foolish…(she was rescued by a NYPD officer).
Well, papa thought we could get back in time for mama to cook for a January 6 epiphany party that normally we throw on New Year’s Day with black-eyes peas and cornbread for good luck during the year, but guess what? THE BOAT IS FULL.
Or rather, the “ship” is full. People who sail tell me, “Loulou, it’s a ship, not a boat. A boat is a rowboat and a ship is BIGGGG boat.” At any rate, we going to have to be a day late and mama will have to soak the peas on Sunday night instead of Saturday night.
To cheer herself up, she took a long walk out into Rome, still lit up with lights and full of people window shopping—a Roman’s favorite pasttime.
Mama came back from her chilly walk and said that she loved to see people coming out of our local bar, trailing a lovely rich scent of their afternoon caffé, everyone bundled up to the eyeballs for the cold front that has moved in (6-degrees C), and a general atmosphere of pre-New Year’s elation–only one more thing to be celebrated before 2015 begins.
I think holidays are a bit tiring for everyone, even if they are filled with celebration and bubbly and gatherings of friends and family (and a couple of extra bits of Party Mix for ME), so maybe a little rest is needed for all.
I’m going to set an example—watch my dust! I have to get some shut-eye because tomorrow I write my New Year’s Resolution! Uh, oh…
Glad you are not permanently stranded.
Well, thank you. We are booked for Saturday and I hope it doesn’t rock and roll. I call it the Woo-Woo boat because it goes Wooooo wooooo when it takes off. Scares the bejesus out of me. I hope that’s not irreverent.
