The Hunter

The Hunted (Actually, scratch that–pigeons too big for this kitty)

Well, because of all the nice friends out there, one of mama’s friends just sent her this website about pigs after having read the blog on diving piggies. It is extremely important to know these things about the USA’s policy on pork-raising, and so I read it, even though mama and I had already read Eating Animals (Jonathan Safran Foer) and knew that there would be some shocking parts to this article on piggies. But she read it.

Still, one cannot ignore the facts on food-raising, or rather, yes, one can ignore them and simply carry on, as our British friend would say, but pigs are a lot smarter than we knew and it’s simply everyone’s own decision to eat them anyway, or not. Free choice.

I do not support cruelty to animals raised for food. I wrote something awhile back on the autistic lady who discovered that cattle can be soothed by music before being offed, and that having music before the kill is better for the cattle since they are less anxious, and their meat is of better quality.

I realize I can get into some sticky stuff here, but this article from NPR was especially helpful for mama, at least (I don’t eat piggies) as she is often debating whether to continue eating certain animals at all, even if raised humanely so I pass it on to you and you can let me know how you feel about all of this.

We all know that dogs and cats have been eaten in certain cultures or at certain times in history, especially during famines, but you know what—I think I’d rather not go there right now.

As for me, I don’t have a lot of say about what is in my food, so mama just has to go on faith that it’s a good one. She has asked the company about its foods and a very nice lady wrote her in depth about the content of Purina’s packets. If I lived somewhere with a lot of land, I’d find my own food, but hey, I don’t, so I just trust that my foof is good for me. And thank you for answering questions about why my fur looked weird. It was a change of diet to a very expensive food for sterilized kitties and mama stopped it right away and went back to less of my regular food and now I’m smooth as diving duck’s belly. Or something like that…
