Shame on you, certain people of France.
Well, mama is really on a tear this morning. That can be read as tear, too, as in what falls from the eyes. The NYT published an article and received over 1000 responses from Muslim women about how they are seen and treated in France, and I think we, in this family, are in such a state right now about that that we are actually considering where we might live if not here. Muslim women are probably often treated the same way in parts of the USA. Many in Europe are thinking of going to the UK where they are free to wear headscarves or anything else they please and have a decent, productive life. We women, anthros and kitties, must speak out. The French and others are such hypocrites.
What a country we have chosen. The French say that they want their visitors to assimilate, but then Muslim women, citizens of France from birth or who have lived here all of their lives and feel, as one woman said, “100% French”, are ostracized and humiliated, taunted with “go back where you came from” and other horribly racial and prejudiced statements that any civil human being would be ashamed of saying. The burkini episode was an affront to all women.
How are we ever to work together when the French magazine, Charie Hebdo, makes fun of Amatrice’s earthquake in a tasteless, useless and despicable cartoon with no sense of responsibility for freedom of speech and press. The mayor of Amatrice says that he is sure the cartoon does NOT reflect the French concern about Amatrice’s disaster and I’m sure it does not, but this cartoon should NOT have been published at all if Charlie Hebdo had any sense of propriety. Idiots, all.
I am not reproducing it here as I do not want it on my blog or anything like it, ever!
And when we become real human beings with hearts and empathy and concern for our fellow anthros, that will be the day that we will not even have to discuss or malign or make fun of or feel hatred for DIFFERENCES. We are all human beings on a small planet and had better learn how to manage that. Why on earth can’t anthros learn anything at all from their past.
Those who do not learn anything from their history are doomed to repeat it. Geroge Santayana
You anthros don’t know ANYTHING. Wise up!
Oh LouLou, assimilate means fit in, become as those around you. These women are ostracizing themselves by NOT assimilating. All of those head pieces and garments they are touting are not chosen pieces of clothing by free women. Those women are enslaved to a religion and way of life that is detrimental and treats them as a lower form of life. It saddens us so to hear about peeps wanting to allow the muslim way of life to become mainstream, because peeps don’t truly know what they’re asking for. It…
Anyways, we luv you and think you are just purrfect LouLou.
Luv ya’

Well, your views are widespread and respected, but some religions enslave women just as badly, as in banning birth control (a woman’s body is HERS and hers alone) or saying you can’t dance or drink anything and so many more inhibitions that are imposed by religions. Personally, I do not actually know what each Muslim women chooses, but I do know that many wish to stay in coverings and some do not and often get out into other lives, and I do undertand completely your views on assimilation. I wish, we all wish that we could live together freely. All of America, you, included, is/are immigrants unless you are an American Indian. And even they came from somewhere else originally.
We forget that our families are immigrants who made our way in a new land and that we were all ostracized before that in another country, forced to believe in things we did not wish to believe and so created the USA. But nowe, the USA is as anti-immigrant as any other country and yes, it is a problem because there are so many, but those who are working and contriubting to our society in any country and still wish to wear what they please are okay by me. I really appreciate you views and want, always, to hear them. I think about them and welcome them. Loulou
We had figgered we upset you and made you angry. We hadn’t seen you visit in a while, and had things come up and wasn’t able to get back here to see your reply. We do luv you and your furm, ily LouLou and agree dat religions can enslave women other than dat of muslim. We just know dat so many peeps are speakin’ out fur things without knowin’ all da facts. Anyways, we’s just glad we didn’t hurt your feelings.
Luv ya’

You all NEVER hurt my feelings and I love your comments on life and love and the pursuit of happiness, which I know you have in your house, with a kind mommy and both of you as friends. I wish we had another kitty as my friend, but it’s a bit late now to have another. I have a doggy friend, Mya, whom I love. She kissed me on the nose a few days ago.
Fanks LouLou. Mommy says it’s never too late. Sis Lexi was 10 years old when me furst came to live with them and me’s gonna be 7 this November and we just adopted Raena. So it’s never too late. But you do have a pawsum furmily as is.

It is traveling with two kitties that mama and papa are wary of…
WOW, Loulou – you even made me feel guilty with that look. Now I’ll have to sift through all the naughty things I’ve done to figure which bad things you know about!!
Well, you and I are french 100% – so we’ll just have to set a good example of tolerance, taste and decorum. And empathy. I think we animals already do our share of improving the anthros – if they bother to pay attention to our wonderful attributes!!
Yes, sometimes THEIR attention spans are just too short! And mama came home last night RAVING to me about that CUTE, ADORABLE, WIGGLY little Mya dog and how WONDERFULLY behaved she is and on an on and on…whew. I had to leave the room.
Very well written. It is sad how they are being treated in France.
Yes, and I am sure, other places. Mama was out yesterday in the town nearby and there was not ONE woman in a scarf and normally there are many, all kinds of different ethic people everywhere, but not one yesterday. I hope it was the heat and not the attitudes.
Oh Loulou, you would probably be sad to find similar things everywhere. During all the current brouhaha over here in the USofA about immigrants, people seem to forget that unless they are of Amerindian heritage we were ALL immigrants ! (In fact I had ancestors who arrived on the Mayflower and other ancestors who were there to meet the boat.) That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t despair or try to change things as much as you are able. And you can seldom go wrong with a good nap !
Yes, unless you are American Indian you are certainly an immigrant. And even they came from somewhere else! Mama is appalled at all these attitudes in various countries, which have become more and more stridently opposed to differences over the years. Cod, are anthros just plain dumb.
You’re right, Loulou, humans don’t know anything. But we know you’re cute. 🙂
AWWWWW…you guys are always so supportive. And yes, human/anthros haven’t an idea how to get along and just look at all of you, living together and making it work!
