Since everyone in this household is a little nutty, this recipe fit in really well with all of us. Do you remember that peanut add that sang, “Sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don’t”? Well, you’ll feel like a nut all the time with these around.
A friend of mama and papa, and mother of Mya, my doggy friend, brought these amazing nuts to our New Year’s party and I want to share the recipe with you because even I had a little lick at one of the almonds and it was killer!
Mama and papa eat nuts all the time, because they are really good for you and keep everything in the machinery chugging along nicely, especially almonds, but you can use any mix of nuts that you like, peanuts, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds in skins or out, Brazil nuts; just pick your mix and do this:
Anne’s Mixed Bag (Mama’s name for Anne’s amazing nuts)
2 1/2 cups mixed nuts
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
2 tablespoons raw or brown sugar
2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped fine
Pinch of chili pepper
Pinch of black pepper
2 tablespoons melted butter
While you’re hoping you find all these things in the pantry, heat the oven to 375F/190C.
In a large bowl, toss all the nuts together, then spread them on a baking sheet and roast for 10-15 minutes, depending on your oven. When you can smell the almonds and they take on a nice color, you can be pretty sure they are done. Take one out, let it cool and see if it crunches under your teeth. Then you’ll know for sure.
In another bowl, mix all the spices and melted butter. Toss the warm nuts with the mixture and let cool before serving.
I have to keep an eye on mama because I saw her picking out all the almonds today and I just know she’ll go for the hazelnuts tomorrow. I’m not sure that’s fair so I’ll just give her a little nudge if I see her misbehaving…plus I like licking the almonds best.
I never misbehave, of course.
Almost never.
Well, maybe once a year.
Hey, I’m just LOOKING, okay?
The mom loves nuts…maybe because she is one herself. She’s gonna try that recipe for sure.
HAHA, that’s what I say about mama. Maybe the mom and mama should meet and be nutty together!
Just once a year, huh? hmm. My boys like nuts, chips, crackers.. they like to lick the salt off. They kindly leave the rest for me.
How incredibly thoughtful, your kitties!
Hmmm, Jan says they sound good. We aren’t really into nuts, so we’ll pass. But we’ll have some of the … turkey? Yum.
There was some salmon, too….but no turkey, alas.
Yum! Those really do sound delish. Thanks for the recipe.
Have a super Sunday…

And thank you for your great blog. Loved the one today and looked at all the ads.
Mum says that the recipe sounds yummy ! Purrs
Well, another friend said that her kitties lick the salt off and leave the nuts for her. Thoughtful, no?
