Hey, at least we have nasties, as mama’s friend used to call nasturtiums. Spring can’t be too far away…
Well, a great lady here in our little ville is putting together a permaculture community garden with only volunteer workers and lots of elbow grease on her part (whatever that is). The mayor’s office is contributing some help and it will be a place where kids can come and learn about organic gardening and how to help the world survive better through using everything possible to have a garden that produces lots of good things to eat and never wastes anything to get that done. Permaculture.
Below are little plots that, in spring, will be planted with veggies for the kids to watch grow and tend.
It all looks pretty wild right now, mama says, but all of this used to be bare, brown earth with NOTHING on it but weeds and overgrown trees and shrubs and now it is taking shape nicely. The green ‘path’ is a kind of plastic they have put down to make the eventual rock paths and the plastic keeps the weed out.
Maryline, the designer, is starting to make beds in shapes–this one is a ‘C’ for Collioure, our little ville.
The crocuses are planted for spring color, all neatly laid out in a circular bed.
Beds like the one below will have artichokes or other vegetables to be decided upon in the spring.
Mama is contributing this wonderful composted stuff that we use in our garden to keep out the weeds.
For me, it’s the ultimate litter box, haha. Just kidding. I use the soil and am VERY meticulous about covering my tracks…..
Bon nuit!
Oh that neighborhood garden will be such a wonderful thing! I think that designer should create a planter bed with an “L” for LouLou and have your fav flowers in it. Hugs!
Oh, what a good idea! I’m going to suggest that tomorrow when I see her!
What a great project ! I love ‘Sturtiums !
Yes, they require NO work, mama says and we eat them in our salads, well, THEY do. So tasty mama says with shellfish and a scallop mousse she serves on top of a leaf.
Did not know they were edible ! Maybe I’ll give ’em a try with some shrimp !
They are best in salads but also with shrimp, too.
Wow, there’s a lot of green around your house. It’s still mostly brown and white around here. Phooey.
Well, we had a surprise a few years ago in mid-MARCH–80 cm of SNOW on top of all our green. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen!
How wonderful to be doing this for your village and the children, and paws up for going the permaculture way. Nice to see you are a paws on gardener too, Lulu, like me. Organic gardens mean one thing to me, organic fat mice! Do tell me how you get on so I can do a culinary tour later in the year! Mol

Well, our friend, Maryline, is doing it and mama will eventually help after her expo but at least she can contribute our magic mulch. I could go over there and shake all over and help mulch!
WOW – beautiful and wonderful ideas for the kiddies! What bad girls we are Loulou – we had the same reaction!! I immediately wanted to water and fertilize those plants! But being little princesses, we know to refrain. Or at least our mamas will remind us…..Mama saw “nasties” – what a funny name – in the marché yesterday for the first time this year and already thinking about thel for our window box for spring. Bravo Maryline – what a great thing!!!
It really is a beautiful space and spring will make it even more lovely. I’m not sure I can visit but maybe if I…er…do my thing discreetly and cover it up well they will let me in.
Interesting. Hope the kids have fun learning how to garden. And how nice of your mama to contribute something to it.
Well, she really hasn’t put in her elbow grease yet, but will when the weather is a bit warmer. And after the expo!
