Well, I might have mentioned or maybe I didn’t that while I was lolling on the gravel in the sun with my nip leaves, mama was attacked, well, sort of, by her rose bush (she was looking underneath it for grass for me), and it was a teensy, teensy prick and not even very deep and the thorn stayed on the rose (thank heaven) but this is what happened to her HAND:
Yes, that’s the bruise left behind the BIG BLOWN-UP part of the hand that happened immediately upon brushing by the thorn. POOF–blown up like a balloon and dark purple! Well, mama got ice, which may have stopped the reaction from traveling up her arm and she called the doc tout de suite!
Who said, get thee to a pharmacy NOW and take 2 Doxycyclines and then two a day for 6 more days!!!
Which she did. And sssssst, the balloon subsided practically immediately but nothing seems to be helping this black hand mama has and boy, is she NOT happy with THAT. Plus she really does not like taking antibiotics and is looking for probiotics, which sounds to me like the antibiotic for antibiotics, which in turn confuses the heck out of me.
That black hand will go away of course over the next few days, but all of you gardeners out there, wear your gloves!
Mama has been growing roses for … er … I won’t say how many years but A LOT, and this has never happened and she has been stuck lots of times.
Who knows what was on that thorn? It was on a stem, however, that mama normally prunes because it’s growing beneath the original root stock of the rose and should be removed.
Allien spores, that’s what I think! Alien spores. They are everywhere!
Contemplation of alien spores….
I’m going out there right now and eradicate those spores.
Whatever they are.
Oh la pauvre maman! Had the bush been treated with any pesticides? (Science needs to know these things.)
No, mama does not use anythingbon her roses except a citronelle organic spray when mites appear, but she us around thorns all the time and this was a real fluke, she says.
WOW – JUST saw this post – and that’s a painful-looking hand!! Who knew a rose thorn could do such damage!!?? Hope it clears up SOON so it doesn’t interfere with tummy rubs. Goodness – mama was thinking about puttig a cactus in the window box in the back – but NOPE!! Mama thinks a glass of Limoncello will help……..
Well, I don’t think limoncello will grow very big. Not around our houses anyway.
I wonder if something STUNG her, and she just assumed it was a thorn, especially since she didn’t get it stuck in her hand. That almost looks like an allergic reaction – but if the doxycyline worked it must have been an infection ! So glad she is on the mend ! And you watch out too, LouLou !
Well, mama felt the rose thorn as she has so many times before and she only brushed it and there was a tiny drop of blood and then whoosh. BIG thumb and joint!
Loulou, My momma had the whole one side of her face black once because she bit the inside of her cheek, hard! It looked horrible and scared her customers. It slowly went away though. It’s no fun being bruised like that.
Patzy
Well, I hope it wasn’t anxiety over…you know who, haha. Glad she’s normal again but on the face, wow.
