Oh, I am a bit sad today when mama called to say that Koko, the magnificent gorilla who knew 2000 words had died at 46 years of age.
What a sweet gorilla she was, and had many friends around the world. Oh, that some anthros could be kind like Koko, and as wise.
What touched me (and mama) so much was that for a present, she was once given a box of little kittens to play with, and she was so kind to them and knew how to treat them with gentleness and care. A truly unusual member of our animal kingdom.
So–so long, Koko. You gave so much pleasure to so many in your long life. I’m glad she passed away in her sleep and did not suffer.
I’m a little sad about this right now.
We are sad about Koko. What an amazing creature she was.
Well, I keep thinking, too, 46 years of love from her sweet companion and the kitties.
we agree that Koko was a kitty-loving sweetheart and that is so sad
Yes, and so incredibly smart.
Enjoyed the video, Koko is really a special one.
And to love kitties like that. So charming.
Loulou, I understand and share your sadness.
Thank you for the TIME email. Some days mama just wants to turn her back on ALL reporting of anything that does not make her heart lift! And how about the Zara parka…?
What about the ZARA parka ?
I don’t get it…
Did you see the ZARA add with all the parkas’ messages on the backs of them?
No, I did not see the Zara add. But then, I very seldom watch TV these days. Will check on the web.
Just a series of parkas with messages on the back. Funny ones. And some not so funny.
Zara…worse than even critics are saying although I doubt MT has read the story. I’ll post that tomorrow when I’m online. Nobody should buy that brand.
Well, it’s not so much the Zara brand as how Melania USED it. Tee shirts and clothing of all kinds have messages, but how you wear them and WHERE are what are important decisions.
Enjoyed the video. Koko sure did like her cats!
Mary Mc Neil sent another link that is a darling video of the kitties with Koko. It was in her comments yesterday, but there are several, plus the film that is about her life. I’ll put the name in when I find it.
Koko was indeed a special being ! She loved kittens and was so kind to them – again, a lesson for us anthros.

I hope this is a link to a YouTube Video that tells of Koko and all her kittens.
OH, thank you so, so much. What a sweet video of Koko and her kittens. Amazing how loving she was to them, her family. Thank you again, Mary.
Mama often thinks that apes of all kinds are often smarter than anthros….
Poor Koko, such a special one and quite famous too.
Yes, amazing what she could learn and how much she could convey to others. But mama has always been in love with Jane Goodall’s works.
