The acrobats up close, about to turn flips and heads in three different piazza.
Well, I was flipping through more photos and I just had to put these in even though you all may be a bit bored with the travelogue going on here, but I liked these and it’s yet another look at this fascinating city and as I said, mama is otherwise occupied for a day or so and she’ll be joining me later on in the week to help me get some news out to you from my stylus, haha. Thought I’d use a Latin word because…you know…of where I am. Amo, amas, amat and all that sort of thing.
So here we go:
The famous Turtle Fountain in piazza Mattei…little turtles all around the edge of the upper basin. Really charming.
An ancient menorah in mosaic in the Jewish ghetto that is over 2000 years old.
Limentani, rooms of china, crystal, glass, pots and pans, you name it, all at discount prices.
A savory way to decorate your bike!
A wonderful mime, just about to make his red balloon (on the right) into a halo over the head of an unknowing nun! She laughed.
OH, NO. Another Dachshund, Maggie, who belongs to the flower seller.
The elegant, hidden Doria Pamphilj tea room on a back street.
Round cucumbers, carciofi (artichokes) and fragoline (tiny, incredibly potent strawberries from a crater nearby called Lago di Nemi).
And a businessman, rounding out his afternoon with his beloved gelato.
Wish he had dropped it. You know who would have been RIGHT there!
How’d you guess?
mummy Likes Icecream too but not me Loulou,xx SPeedy
Oh, boy, are you lucky. I could eat a whole dish. Chocolate!!! And you know what THAT would do.
MOL! You woulda gotten it before it hit the ground, Loulou!
Oh, it’s nice to have someone have faith in me. Thank you.
I never tire of photos of you or your Mama’s travels. That menorah is incredible, amazing it has survived for so long. And I would love to shop in the store with all the plates and glasses.
You can find anything in there, especially things you never knew you needed, haha. But yes, you would love that place.
We read gelato is not really the same as ice cream. Less fat. Softer. Less air. Delish! We’d love to try some.
Gelato can be anything from a confection made only with milk as it is often in Sicily, or made with cream and milk, or made with egg yolks or not with egg yolks. But gelato is the word for ice cream in Italian and it has become associated, in English, with something different from ice cream. But it IS ice cream and can be very, very rich. One shop near us uses only Valrhona chocolate and pure cream, etc. and it’s rich, believe me. In Sicily, where mama and papa will be for a few days, the ice cream is made often with heavy milk and they will write me to tell me exactly how it’s made. Such fun to research gelato!!!
MOL You are too cute LouLou. We’s never had gelato, but it does look good. Hope you’re all havin’ a good time.
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
You know, I’ll bet you’ve had homemade ice cream in Oklahoma. It’s just gelato. Remember fresh peach ice cream in the summer. That’s gelato.
