This whole holiday thingy has worn me out but I’m making up for it little by little.
And, I don’t know about you all out there, but at our house on New Year’s Day we HAD to have our black-eyed peas or forever be broke. Well, not really, but those peas are supposed to bring good fortune, just as lentils and sausages do for Italy and France, but with mama’s family, it was those delicious peas cooked with ham, onions and a bit of sage and served with greens and cornbread.
Drool. I had a little piece of ham but it’s not really my thing. And I couldn’t have the peas because of the onions. Jeez Louise I’m sounding like a food fanatic!
Hey, wait a minute, I heard that LARGE bowls of kibble are what bring money to the coffers, isn’t that right? Or maybe a nice serving of Party Mix, haha.
Off to rest some more. I can see this is going to be a really exciting year and I have to be ready!

Just a little photo of our lovely sky tonight, and a full moon, to boot.
Does that mean I can kick Mr. Moon around like a soccer ball, haha.
We didn’t get any ham this year, Loulou…though the mom and dad-guy got plenty. Phooey!
OMG – Mama is once again drooling into the computer with the image of the black eyed peas!! “THEY” – had lentils – and i got none – nor extra kibbles!! Actually I wonder if this wealth thing works, since EVERY first of every month, they eat lentils – with sautéed lardons, onions, garlic and a strong vinaigrette. BUT if wealth is counted in other ways – love, happiness, fun – we’re all very rich, right? Maybe that’s what it means. Or perhaps it’s a marketing ploy by bean growers………..
Hey, wait a minute. EVERY MONTH ON THE FIRST? I have to know about this. Is it for $$$? Or do they just love lentils, which mama loves, too?
It’s a french thing! The first of every month. To be rich – but I guess it would help if we bought a lottery ticket, huh!?
I LOVE IT. Now we have to eat black-eyed peas every first of the month!!! YAY…let’s hear it for the ham!
The beans looks good. My cats always get mad when we tell them they can’t have something because of the onions.
Oh, Ellen, me, too. I actually LOVE the smell of onions and I’m right down there in the kitchen the minute mama starts cooking them.
no wonder jan is always broke. she doesn’t eat black eyed peas for new years. hope 2018 will be a good year for you.
BLACK-EYED PEAS ARE A SOUTHERN MUST!!!!
It was a Super Moon – the first of two this year.
In our part of the world it is pork and sauerkraut (and mashed potatoes ) on New Year’s Day. You don’t like ham ? Gosh !
I LOVE HAM, but they didn’t give me enough in that tiny bite.
