Oh, how I wish I could read more and more books forever…
Well, mama is incredibly touched by a book she is reading that was written by the publisher of her book on bread and who is now writing his own lovely, mind-changing books. Books on books and reading–amazing new thoughts from this very special man, and mama is loving every sentence.
She is only on chapter five or so but has had to stop often just to collect her own thoughts and responses to Will Schwalbe’s lovely observations about how we read, what we read and how books are essential nourishment for our souls and spirits.
In his first book, The End Of Your Life Book Club, he mentions books that found him and his mother during the long illness leading to her death, and how these books sustained and enriched their last days together. That book was like food to mama, as is this new one, Books for Living. And mama wrote down every book he and his mother read and found that she had also read many on the list. But mama reads as if the book she is reading is the last one on earth…
If you read, if you are even thinking of reading more, start with these books.
I’ll read over mama’s shoulder for sure as she finishes Mr. Schwalbe’s brilliant insights into words.
Loulou, that chapter on the author’s Latin teacher was so moving I just had to lie down and rest.
I know what you mean, mama. I do that all day long.
Maman says she’s going to read that book (if it’s down-loadable) but yesterday, we went to the book store and bought the new-format 2017 Michelin Guides for North and South Italy and she can’t even tear herself away from those to finish her Elena Ferrante book!! So many books, so little time……….Papà says she gets dangerous (and expensive) ideas from those books. But they laugh, whatever works.
YES, dangerous and expensive, that’s a start!
I loved both of these books, especially The End Of Your Life Book Club.
Oh, Ellen, Will is a darling and mama really loved working with him on No Need To Knead…a grand man in every sense.
How nice your mama takes the time to read to you, Loulou. It’s a bonding experience for you two.
Yes, well, I get a little bored with Puss in Boots but we’re looking for some updated books for kitties. Maybe the autobiography of Cat Stevens…hmmm…was he a cat?
Books are the best!
Have a super Wednesday…
Noodle and crew
YES, let’s hear it for BOOKS!
Thank you so much for the recommendation Loulou. Mom is going to see if she can find those books. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, and Cooper Murphy
They are very moving, both of them.
Oh LouLou – your first sentence says it all !
Oh, thank you so much. Maybe I could have stopped there?
No, no – I like to learn about new books. Just can’t stop to think about how I will never get them all read !
Boy, are you and mama branches of the same tree!
We’ll tell the mom about those books since she’s the one that does all the reading around here.
Well, you guys could curl up with, well, just curl up.
Well dat’s very innerestin’. We’re so glad your mommy is enjoyin’ da book(s). Ya’ll look adorable together. Big hugs fur all.
Luv ya’
