Well, not exactly, but mama passed a pizza place here in our little ville and saw that the owners had put out a very nice cage sort of thing with a sign on it that says “Cemetiere de cajas“, which I thought was really funny. A cemetery for cast off boxes, which can then be recycled.
Oh, these French! They really do recycle everything, cans, paper, and oh, yes, the biggest container for wine bottles! Appropriate, mama says. But we do have our share, even if a lot of the experimental wines around this house go into mama’s vinegar jars.
She says that at least it’s pretty high-class vinegar, haha. Which I can’t really go along with because not all of the vino that hits her jars is haut de gamme (top of the line) but even so-so vino makes for a good vinegar feeding. It’s kust that mama likes to use pretty good stuff in her 165-year-0ld vinegar from a Sicilian “mother”…not a real mother, of course, but a sort of wobbly, jelly-like base for vinegar and which resembles a dark brown body organ, as in liver.
A little piece of that will make a lot of vinegar!
I guess mama’s vinegar jars should say “Wine Cemetery”, haha.
And mama says it’s really fun to find thing to bury there…
Hey, these guys are very alive, trust me!
Your mom makes her own vinegar? She has a lot of culinary talents!
Well, it’s easy if you have leftover wine….lotsa luck around here, haha. It think there’s a blog on vinegar that I wrote some months ago. I’ll try to find it for you.
You have to find someone with a “mother” to start vinegar.
