Well, a friend of mama and papa just emailed to say how glad she was that we were not on a ferry ANYWHERE (our ferry is not leaving here until the 2nd of January) because there is a burning ferry in the Adriatic with many anthros stranded and being evacuated by helicopter to safety every fifteen minutes, so I’m pretty sure everyone will survive. The only fatality was a man who jumped overboard when the fire broke out (in the garage, they think). There are still 300 people waiting to be rescued.
Was someone smoking? Who knows, but there is no smoking on those ferries and sometimes when we take it there are what seems like gazillions of teen-agers going to Barcelona or coming back to Civitavecchia from Barcelona and you just know they smoke somewhere! But this may not have been caused by a smoker and we’ll know tomorrow.
Anyway, if you’re taking a ship or a ferry and you smoke, please do it outside on deck and remember that I, little Loulou, am in a stateroom somewhere near you looking out of the porthole and enjoying the waves and the sky and I REALLY do not wish to be helicoptered to safety because of fire started by someone.
Let’s hope that all are evacuated tonight and let us give a big hurrah to the tankers and large ships that are surrounding the burning ferry to help block the 55-mile-an-hour winds that were hindering the rescue.
Let’s think and send good thoughts to those being saved on the ferry from Norman Atlantic Lines and hope that by morning, all is over. The rescue squads are doing an amazing job, mama says, but the strong winds and waves are not easy to combat.
I’m going to sleep on that. It’s a bit traumatic for me because there may be kitties on that ship…
