Waiting for chocolate…(do I look a little cross-eyed in this photo; hmmm…)
Well, mama says I shouldn’t write Bush because it sounds as if I’m saying something about our ex-you-know-who, but I thought it was pretty funny, since a Buche de Noel (correct spelling) is a cake that looks like a log, and so I used bush instead of log because a bush can become a log and so….aw, forget it.
‘The reason I’m writing about it at all is because there is the smell of melting chocolate and cream coming from the kitchen where mama is making the ganache for the frosting on the fake log, which is a sponge cake made as a sheet cake and then rolled up around whipped cream and iced with the chocolate and cream icing and then made to look like a real piece of wood by making striations down it with a fork and by putting crushed pistacchi on the ends and finding a branch of holly or the equivalent somewhere with leaves on it to stick on to try and fool people even more!
Guess what? That log isn’t going to fool anyone for a minute because EVERYONE knows what dark chocolate looks like and unless you’re really near-sighted, you’re going to know immediately that it’s a CAKE. Duh…
Still, it’s fun to make, mama says, and the anthro grandkids will love it and so it’s in the works.
Here’s a photo of one (not mama’s) so you’ll get the picture, so to speak.
I let you know how it turns out, but that’s AFTER I try to wangle a lick at the icing bowl from the cook.
Lotsa luck on that one…
And here’s a website from a friend that you might enjoy for the holiday season. Thank you, Anne!
Mmmm that looks good. Not even a taste? Torture, pure torture.
I could mail it but…
