You may be asking yourself—how does a house kitty know anything about cat houses? Yes, that’s what anthros call them (not very nice for us kitties!), and have for many years, and right here in our neighborhood, south of the border between France and Spain at Jonquera, there is the largest and supposedly cheapest house of prostitution in Spain.
Mama says that, sadly, the girls are usually duped or coerced, one way or another, into becoming prostitutes, with promises of jobs in Spain and a better life than the one they are recruited from, while they actually end up having to work horrible hours at a job they never expected to pay off the debts incurred when the promised work does not pan out. They have to pay inflated prices for toothpaste, toilet paper, rental of their rooms, and so many other things one needs in daily life that they end up never being able to pay back their expenses and so are helpless to leave. They are threatened. They are susceptible to diseases. They meet questionable clients who might be very harmful to them. Sad, sad.
Sounds like what a stray kitty’s life is about.
In a way, stray kitties are not that different from stray anthros who have to rely on the possible kindness of someone who may or may not wish to help them.
When we drive into Rome, we are on roads where I have seen from our car window young girls waiting for ‘work’, some of them so young that it’s hard to imagine that someone has not busted the people who put them there! I see, too, that they look sad, dispirited, often desperate and without much hope.
When I was abandoned, I knew what it was like to be out on the street, without food, without shelter, wondering where my next safe place to hide would be, so I know what those young women are feeling who find themselves in terrible predicaments, not speaking the language of the country and alone without recourse to return to their homes, terrible as they might have been. Certainly prostitution as a choice is questionable, although I’m sure some anthros actually choose that profession and that’s their business.
But the thing that amazes me is that, sort of like for kitties, sex is everywhere nowadays and often, free, and although prostitution has been around since anyone can remember, the world’s oldest profession could do with an overhaul that has the workers in mind! If it is going to be true work, let it be voluntary. No coercion, no threats, no fear of losing one’s health or possibly life if one is not compliant with shady rules of prostitution rings.
This kitty feels strongly that there are other ways to make a living that are not so harmful to the spirit and soul of young women (or men), and I know that’s a hard line to take. Not every stray or abandoned or mistreated kitty finds a nice warm house with food in the bowl and sweet snuggles, but they are always on the lookout.
I’m just wishing things would change. You never know when that might happen, right? Maybe with all the recent energy we put into the greening of our planet, we might want to put some new efforts into the greening of human beings.
