Some tasty snapshots of garden surprises
Well, mama has been observing the little corners of the garden where surprises turn up so I thought I’d check them out and put in a few photos of same. Probably places I have “been”, haha, since they are growing so well.
But first, papa’s art shot of Spring Cleaning The Garden Chairs and Table:
A little jolly jump up nestled by the rosemary
Greek oregano that mama thought had been pulled out completely by accident but was only hibernating!
MORE NIP coming up through the gravel–a volunteer, mama says.
Lavender blooming with our neighbour Jean Riere’s, magnificent garden in the background.
Kiwi flowers just popping out – ready next winter, YAY!
A sunflower that comes each year all by itself – mama’s close friend who is not with us any longer loved sunflowers and this comes up in the garden as a little message, mama thinks, from her dear departed Sandy. Who knows? Sandy was pretty powerful!
Last but not least, the tired photographer relaxing in the arugula next to the epinards (spinach). My paw is worn out.
I kept telling Mom that the plant she’s been calling nip is actually OR-e-ga-no and not nip at all. She wondered why I didn’t care to smell it. Now seeing the photo of your momma’s plant, she now believes what I’ve been telling her all along! Tee hee hee.
Hey, I can send you a pic of my nip. It’s pretty graphic and clear as a bell that it’s a mint, not an oregano.
Your garden is coming along just great! But where’s the nip?
Oh, there is a HUGE bed of nip. I sort of wish it were in a big yellow banana though….maybe mama will replenish my cigar and nana.
Ooooh, beautiful – but I’m missing a little “red” in those shots – cherry tomatoes!! Are they all gone? Maybe some of those JOLLY things would be good!! You are so lucky – your own garden to frolic in whenever you want! Well, we did the stroller thing yesterday – I got pushed like a little princess all over Nice, making people laugh and smile and take pictures. So guess that’s the next best thing to a real garden!
You are going to end up on a wanted list. They all WANT you!
“Volunteer” nip in your garden LouLou ? Oooh lala !
My grandmother (d. 1949) called them “Johnny Jump Ups.” I’m sure she would agree they are Jolly as well !
I think your granny was correct and have no idea where mama got “jolly” but I think she heard “johnny” originally and just malapropped it, if that’s a verb, haha.
Lots of plants have “folk names” – I think they are probably both correct – “catnip” and “catmint” for instance.
As, yes, and Black Eyed Susans, and Feverfew, and Daisies and more. It’s fun to look up some of those but I love the folk names.
Merci, oh lalala français! Lilly Bug came by to visit your blog today. Check out 2 Cats and a Blog if you get a chance https://2catsandblog.wordpress.com/
