Mr. Hawking is my hero!!
Mama and papa were watching a film on John Lennon and of course, that wonderful song was part of the film, and I started thinking, yet again, about how anthros go about making war and peace with one another, and I remembered that mama read to me toady that the great scientist, Stephen Hawking, has pulled out of a Presidential Conference in Israel in protest over the acquisition of Palestinian lands by Israel over many years.
I, too, have followed the Israelis aggression because kitties have territories and we don’t want other kitties to come prancing around in our yards, rubbing on everything to leave their scent and in short, start moving in on our turf to take over!
Mama and papa talk all the time about the question of why the Israelis and Palestinians can’t remember—duh!–that they come from the same roots and have the same blood in their veins and could live together far more productively and successfully if they shared their lands and resources instead of fighting daily over who gets what and why. Plus the Palestinians are not as strong as the Israelis, who have the Americans behind them, but sometimes I think the Americans should just say, “Israelis, we’re outta here—solve your own damn problems, but if you do anything stupid, we’re gonna help the other guys.” Now that would be interesting….
Sometimes heads of state are just plain dumb. Or rigid. Or short-sighted.
Certainly not like us kitties who are flexible and open-minded about everything (except not getting dinner).
You don’t just start building houses for your Jack Russells on land that is designated for Tuxedo kitties without running into resistance. Any fool can see that.
And mama and I feel that Stephen Hawking (who I love watching on Youtube because he is so, so smart and funny and loves kitties and has one named “Atom”—cool, no?) has great courage in turning down a conference at which there will probably be no new conclusions anyway to advance the solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian problem.
You wanna know what I think? Just as a very wise man said to me once when he was oohing and ahhhing over my cuteness, “You know, Loulou, there are NO problems in the world—there are just opportunities, and don’t you forget it.”
An opportunity for two states with two peoples living their lives next to one another in peace. The Israelis will never give in because of the injustices they feel they have suffered throughout history. But that is another story, with many views, many interpretations and not told easily in a few words.
Israel and the Palestinians have a big opportunity to change the world, if only they would listen to John Lennon’s song.
I’m putting on the CD right now in honor of Mr. Hawking.
And Atom.
