National Selfie Day? Well, here’s mine, doing what I do best.
OH, NO, not more culture!
Well, for the life of me, I have no idea why they chose ‘vulture’ for the word to go with ‘culture’ other than it’s the only one that rhymes, haha.
But, mama and papa (who are back, by the way–more on that later) sent me some pics of their museum-going morning and I thought I’d share them with you. It was a show of graffiti artists’ works, but why on earth have they started putting graffiti in museums instead of just leaving them where they are supposed to be in their own environments. They look sort of out of place to me in a museum. Oh, well, what the heck. Here’s a little tour:
This is actually a floor but you can see it as a ceiling, too.
This guy’s the king of graffiti. This is two-dimensional and looks three! Mama took a pic of a cute guy when papa wasn’t looking. Oh, wow, that cute guy IS papa!
Well, if you ask me, I’d rather see these in their habitats and I really prefer a little Roma tour:
An artist in her studio.
A mosaic discovered on an excavation’s floor under a restaurant.
The Turtle Fountain in the ghetto. See the little turtles hanging over the edge. Like little Bolts!
Santa Maria Sopra Minerva–a church built over a Roman temple that lies way beneath.
And mama’s favourite monument, the Pantheon. One night she and papa listened as an acapella group of young people sang with incredible harmony. There is a nice video of them on this site:
Well, that’s such a little tour of such a great city. As they say, “Mai in una vita.” Meaning never in a lifetime could you see all the city has to offer.
The little long white sign on this building indicates to where the flood waters rose in November, 1870, when the Tiber river overflowed.
Overflewed? Overfled? Okay, okay, went over its banks. That is a lot of water!!!
Off to do a little bit more sulking and then I’ll call it quits and be nice. After all, they really just arrived at midnight yesterday! A long trip, but thank heaven I was NOT on that ferry!
I slept with them last night so I guess we are friends again. Also brought them a little birdie (my first kill!) as a gift. Mama thanked me profusely but I’m pretty sure she was a bit sad, too. I don’t usually off anything around here…
I’m actually glad they are home, finally. But I won’t tell yet…
Okay, okay, I’ll tell.
Wow we loved the exhibition and the was one heck of a trip!
We are catching up after a mad week of selfies and stuff.
Thanks for the picture treats!!
Oh, glad you could share in my culture tour. Of course, I was NOT THERE (thank heaven).
Wow, that’s some colorful art! Glad your humans are home now, Loulou. We hope they are showering you with attention…and treats.
You mean ‘shower’ as in water? Oh, dear, no, no but the treats and attention, YES!
AWWWW – the birdie was your peace offering. but we won’t tell them it really just plopped on the ground out of the sky from old age. Mama is oogling over the art and artifacts. Looks like the wall exploded behind your papa!!! That’s her fave art shot!! And that fountain with sculptures of Bolt’s ancestors – incredible. OK. No more sulking – play nice – let them know you’re thrilled they’re back. A mouse cadeau would be impressive and would make a strong statement!
Mouse? What does it look like?
Great selfie and beautiful culture.
Oh, thank you. It is a special city, that’s for sure. But very few kitties in the streets, mama says.
They sure did see some amazing sights and I’m glad your homecoming was a good one! Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Oh, I love the blog hops you host, Brian. And so many friends are always there.
You’re a pushover, Loulou. You just can’t stay in a huff around your mama and papa. Glad you welcomed them home. What did they bring you?
Hey, it’s not what they brought ME, it’s what I made for THEM, as you will see….
LouLou, I am so glad everyone is getting back to normal !
I always enjoy Mama’s pictures from their travels – parts of Rome you don’t see in the sixth-grade Social Studies books…
We are about to get the leftover rain from Hurricane Diane, which means a lot of people are going to have it a lot worse from more direct hits. Be glad your anthros are off the boat too,
Oh, wow, I wonder if that’s where that HUGE bolt of lightning came from here that wrecked everyone’s internet and lots more. A neighbour who SAW it said it was a metre wide! Huge explosion.
