Oh, to have a kolache in my paws!
Kolache photo from Foodways mag–thank you.
Well, Czech this out! Mama, who is a Czech descendant, has a darling niece who sent her this article from Foodways Magazine on kolaches, a sweet roll filled with fruit or poppy seeds that mama’s grandmother used to make all the time. Such a delicious pastry, and really, so easy to make, mama says. Of course it would be easier if Bigmama, mama’s grandmama, were here to advise and instruct.
As you might remember, I often help mama in the kitchen when she makes bread (or things with fish, haha) and I happened to be there when the kolache dough was rising so I stuck my little tiny mama-will-never-know-it-happened-paw in the dough and I can see why kid anthros (and adults) eat raw dough. The dough is sweet and buttery and you can just imagine what it will be like when it is baked all golden and crispy on the edges.
So now mama is on a kolache tear! More on this later when she gets them up and rising.
Meanwhile, I am off to bed as it is almost midnight here and I think I drooled myself silly looking at these rolls. Exhausting work.
Me, drooled silly.
Oh my goodness they look tasty! and I think you might end up with a lot of visitors wanting those!
Hey, we’re here, at home, and mama’s making them tomorrow!
That looks tasty, said Claire. Purrs
Oh, but in Switzerland, there are so many good pastries!
OMGOMG Loulou – save one for me!!! These look a heck of a lot better than those hard little fish-flavored chunkettes maman stuffs me with!! We don’t know these, so maman is going to check out that site – and if it’s not TOO difficile, she ill give it a try. But she’s not very gifted when it comes to pastries, except for picking them out at the local patisserie!!
Hey, that takes talent, too! And your maman cooks way more wonderful things than kolaches.
They do look tasty.
Oh LouLou you look so adorable. But me does think Raena has ya’ beat on da “afterglow” from food. MOL She ate so much turkey she just zonked plumb out. Mommy luvs bread and sweet rolls. She said she’d be quite happy with those rolls sans da jelly and fillin’ (not her fave). Enjoy da kalaches. Big hugs to all
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
Wish they travelled but I don’t think they would do well after a couple of weeks at the P.O.
You’re purrobably right LouLou. Dat’s okay, we can almost taste them from just da foto and your yummy description. 🙂
Luv ya’

Well, I still wish I could send some…
We think our mom is probably going to drool herself silly as well. Those look so delicious! Dad just put his honey/wheat bread in the oven. have a good night’s sleep as visions of kolaches dance in your head. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
WOW, DAD BAKES and DAD rocks! I’ll get mama to give me the recipe to put in next time. She’s making more right now and taking pics.
Drooled silly? That dough must have been good! They sure look yummy in the picture.
Well, those aren’t mama’s but the next pics will be!!! Well, pics in a couple of days.
