(My friend, Fiat, and I. Doing our thinking yoga…)

You know, none of us kitties thinks exactly the same as the other. We all have ideas in our little skulls that are ours alone, or maybe we agree or disagree with others, depending on the subject—for example, I happen to like little birdies and love to keh, keh, keh at them without running at them and pouncing on them and causing them undue hardship, while other kitties (and I’ve seen this with my own eyes) can mangle a merle or rip a robin without a trace of remorse.

Well, it’s the law of the jungle and I understand that, but what I want to say is that a lot of people read this blog (I hope!) and not all of them are of the same opinion about politics or gay rights or crimes against humanity or even what to put in a good chicken soup (well, we probably all agree that chicken certainly helps!), but we can still, most of us, be friends and kind to one another without having to agree on every little thing.

Mama says that in her family, you were not allowed to talk about money, politics or religion at the table, and I think that’s a pretty good path to follow.  But, of course, no one does and some pretty heated conversations come out of breaking that rule and often, some pretty good ideas are exchanged that may or may not make everyone think a little differently from the way he or she thought before. Always good to shake up the pot.

But differences of opinion don’t have to be cause for animosity (uh, oh, does that come from “animal”—like me?) and so I just want to say that the world would be a pretty dull place if everyone always agreed and said, “Yes, yes, that’s exactly what I think, too.” Then again, sometimes people just can’t agree at all on very  big matters—Mr. ‘Bama’s policies, Tea Party tactics, old Putin’s pressure on his people, human rights, animal rights, you name it—but that’s no reason not to esteem and admire the good heart and soul of another.

Mama and papa always come back from visiting their aunts and uncles and cousins across the ocean and even if they don’t agree with each other on some issues, they return with smiles on their faces and are overflowing with lively stories of their time in another town, and love and affection for a family that’s full of energy and fun and love of life, despite their differences.

There’s also a doggie there. And I know from sniffing around mama that she PETTED and SNUGGLED THAT ANIMAL!

(That better not be mama’s hand…! I don’t think it is; too hairy.)

Stella, she’s called. I have to say, she’s pretty cute, and we might even think along the same lines. But that doesn’t matter. She looks like a good soul, plus she licks newcomer’s toes to say hello.

Can’t be all bad. We’ll get along.
