Well, here it comes—rollicking times in the streets, parades, costumes (unfortunately in the northern hemisphere, not many tongas and feathers…brrrr), battles with flowers, decorated boats, feasting and merriment to prepare for, in the Christian world, lent. A pagan rite with origins in ancient Rone. Sounds appropriate…
Wikipedia states: “Popular practices on Mardi Gras include wearing masks and costumes, overturning social conventions, dancing, sports competitions, parades, debauchery, etc.”
Now, wait a minute—just what is that “etc.”? I mean, after overturning social conventions and debauchery, what IS there? Maybe running amok, or making faux paws, haha. I never do that ‘paws’ stuff but it really seemed to fit here.
I have lent (no pun intended) my kitty mask to mama just in case she decides to join in all of that debauchery and I’ve offered to paint whiskers on papa and make him a tail, but he hasn’t decided yet whether he is going to go hog wild or just blend in. Make that a curly tail…
Mama’s crown that lights up and flashes so that papa can find her in a crowd of rollickers…(haha, just kidding).
Mama has some great stick-on face things that look as if they tried to copy us felines so maybe she’ll go for that, but the jist of this is that I am not invited at all! My good friend, Sue, will be here with me and boy, are WE going to cut a rug! Those anthros have no idea of the trouble we get into when they bug out.
Hey, when the anthros are away, the kitties will play, right? Just see if I care about dancing in the streets and flowing wine and rich food to make ready for penitence. Whatever that is. Certainly none of my concern.
I have my own anthro mask–so there!
We like your mask, Loulou! We hope Mardi Gras was a lot of fun.
If only I could help mama get the confetti out of her hair…not to mention Silly String!!!
Are you at the Mardi Gras? Or just wishing? 🙂
Mama and papa are at the Carnival de Nice…a little different but they are visiting a friend who lived in New Orleans and mama knows Mardi Gras well….Nice is a bit different, quieter and lots of music and lots of kids and older people and everyone is civilized…..
