FIRST: HAPPY PAPA’S DAY TO PAPA!!! Am I a lucky kitty or what?
🌺🌸👍
Well, President Biden just signed a bill establishing June 19 as Juneteenth NationalIndependence Day. The US federal holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, and it is the first federal holiday established since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.
There were those who voted against this decision.
Afraid of losing their jobs when they next run for office?
Afraid of opening up our country equally to ALL citizens?
Afraid of those whose color is a diferent shade (from South Pacific ¨You Have to be Taught¨)?
Or just plain racist.
Well, it’s a national holiday now and it’s about time, mama and papa say. Hats off to President Biden.
And shame on the 14 dissenters who are not serving their constituents well in any way. Mama would call them cowards, but no one asked her…
The others who voted in this holiday decision are definitely part of the home of the brave and the free. Thank you.
RIGHT ON, USA!
I can’t believe people voted against. In fact I am gobsmacked it isn’t a national holiday already. Man’s inhumanity to men eh?
So amazing, the inequality in the USA since it’s first days of being. And still, so, so much.
Happy Father’s Day to your wonderful Dad! XO
Mr. Wonderful, you nailed it. Merci.
I don’t know why anyone would vote against making it a holiday. Maybe just so there’s dissension?? Happy Dad’s Day to your wonderful cat daddy!
They were representatives of states that tend to be leaning well into racism, trying to stop voting rights for all, etc. and the reps are afraid their constituencies will not vote for them again if they behave as other intelligent human beings. And if we can celebrate Columbus Day, we can surely celebrate freedom from slavery!
Yes YES – it’s about time!
Hugs, Teddy
So glad you agree and I wish those 14 had felt that way. Arggggh.
Good point Eastside Cats !
Yes, let’s change several holidays to include EVERYONE. For example, practically all female kitties should celebrate MAMA DAY, no?
Loulou, I believe that Columbus Day should also be made Indigenous People’s Day; the Native Americans deserve a day too, not the European that bumped into North America when he thought he was sailing toward Asia!
YES, I am for that for sure!
