I was listening to Ella and Satchmo the other night with mama and papa, and in case you young Turks don’t remember or have never heard of those amazing singers, Ella Fitzgerarld and Louis Armstrong, also one of the world’s greatest trumpet players, just look through your parents’ CDs or go on Utube and you’ll see and hear greatness before your eyes.
So the next day, I was thinking about the de-clawing of kitties, which I am against, and I sort of came up with this song, to be sung to “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” by George and Ira Gershwin, the brilliant brothers who brought such joy to my perky little ears.
The way I scratch my post;
The way I scale a tree;
You know I am the most,
and no, they can’t take claws away from me;
I need them to survive;
And they’re trimmed purrfectly.
Besides, I pull them innnnnn (la la la)
When someone’s really nice to me.
I may never, never have to use my little claws again at home,
But you never know when a kitty might have to roam…..
I use ’em for an itch,
and my ears are mite-free!
I’m getting a claw-a-cure,
because my claws are such a part of me—-
no, you can’t take claws away from me—-
no, no, you let my little claws be.
(That’s all, folks! Sing away….)
