HEY, WE’RE NOT LEAVING FOR A LONG TIME!
Whoever that was. Gullifur??? You have to be kidding. I mean, mama, there are puns and there are PUNS.
And what did you mean when you said that traveling with me gives you pause? Did I misspell that? It looks as if you still have those weird appendages you anthros have, those five-fingered pads that snuggle and scratch so well. So what is this paws thing?
Just remember–we are NOT traveling until NEXT week, okay. Let’s just be zen, here in the moment, and enjoy the sweet days before Christmas and sing a few carols, okay?
Mama says that when she was young at school and sang in a choir they used to botch all the words just to see if anyone noticed, as in “Deck the halls with Boston Charley” or “Beefstew, beefstew, beefstew the Saviour’s way“. BAAD kids, my mama’s crowd, but the choir teacher never seemed to notice. Mama says it’s because he was tippling sherry before the practice and hardly noticed anything except if they were off key, haha.
(No not THESE kids–this was just a cute example of a sweet choir at mama’s school)
Mama even had a solo once (miracle of miracles!) singing from the Messiah by Handel (whoever he is) and her knees knocked so much it was as if they were keeping time and she was sure the congregation heard the bangs! She sang “He-ee shall feed his flocks, li-ike a shepherd” and then she forgot the next line but remembered it just in time. Before she collapsed, haha.
I wish someone around here would sing a few carols and beefstew the Saviour’s way! Or just put that beefstew in my dish!
To get in the mood, here’s a lovely carol that mama adores and I put it in my blog each season.
Such a sweet story about goodness and kindness. Heaven knows we need more of both.
Carols make me so happy. Do you have a favorite?
What a great song with a perfect message. We love it! Happy Holidays to you and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too!,
Yes, such lovely voice, too. I think the King was a yellow tabby and the page, a tiny Tuxie.
Ooooh that’s a beautiful song, Loulou! I can just imagine your mama’s knees knocking as she sang – my mama always wanted to sing but she was so bad the choir director in high school told her to just mouth the words and pretend she was singing. How humiliating is THAT!? SO, you get to do the boat-thing next week? But just imagine all the friends who will come to cuddle (maybe with treats!!??) and you can ogle the birds in the garden! FUN!!!!!
Oh, but that “boat thing”….arggggggh
Centuries ago Jan sang in the church choir. We can’t figure out why she was allowed to join since she can’t carry a tune. Evidently your mama can if she once sang a solor.
I’ll bet Jan sings just fine but it’s different from a doggy or kitty song, you know that!
That is a lovely carol, and apparently based on facts – Wenceslas really WAS a good king !
My current personal favorite is Judy Collins “The Cherry Tree Carol.” I searched for a link, but they all had minutes of video before the performance started. You’ll have to take my word for it.
Did Mama not ever sing about the Magi “riding on a rubber cigar”? I am ignorant of the beefstew one.
“Boston Charlie” came from the Pogo comic strip (unless Pogo got it from somewhere else.)
Oh, yes, We three kings of orient are, riding on a rubber cigar, it was loaded it exploded, that’s how they got so far…ohhhhh, star of wonder, star of night.. etc. Do we know trivia or WHAT? Thanks for the memory, Mary. You are a serious wealth of information!!! More, more!
