Sleep Yoga at its best.
Well, this may sound a bit simplistic, but mama is moving around every day (under 30 minutes, by the way, no jumping, no transitions to the ground, a moderate cardio and toning session) with a wacky, wonderful woman on YouTube, Pahla B, and her programs are primarily for weight loss after a certain age, but mama is doing it for cardio and toning, and Ms B suggests that her five tenets, if one applies them, really WORK!
Here’s the best part: You lose weight by eating correctly, NOT by exercising. In fact, you may be gaining weight by doing too much. Her philisophy is this:
Drink the right amount of water: your weight in pounds divided by 2 to get how many ounces you need per day. If you weigh 120, you needed 65 ounces of water a day, or, divided by 8 ounces for a glass, 8 glasses per day.
Go to bed and get up at the same time, and don’t worry about how much actual sleep you get because that changes from time to time.
Eat the right amount of calories, which may not be less than what you eat now.
Exercise MODERATELY every day, which means not hours and hours of strenuous, possibly damaging exercise, because you can actually GAIN weight by exercising too much.
Manage your mind.

If a thought feels good, it’s a good thought, If it feels bad, it is a bad thought and not reallygood for you. Research she has done shows that about 80% of our thoughts are often bad ones and can be changed to enhance our lives, not make us sad or depressed or unable to function.
Well, I considered this and found that yes, when I can change a sad/bad/unhelpful thought to something more positive, I actually feel better equipped to handle my very strenuous kitty-life.
I WILL get food, I WILL get tummy rubs, I WILL get my naps even if the help around this place is not on time with my kibble or forgets to turn on my cozy little mat for Sleep Yoga!
She’s fun and positive and makes the day start with wacky chatter and I do SERIOUS watching-exercise when mama is doing her videos. I especially like the Chicken-wing High Knee and the Swimming Frog…
This very smart, kooky lady makes the day sparkle!

The mom needs to exercise more…even moderately!
Moderate is best if you are over 50 because estrogen is lower and one cannot snap back as fast as before and one can be injured more easily. Same for men and changed testosterone levels. Too much exercise can actually make the body GAIN weight.
Oh Loulou it sounds like you and your Mama are trying to stay in shape the smart way. My Mama’s favorite exercise is walking into the kitchen and grabbing a snack. HAHAHA Seriously, she is looking into the Pahla B YouTube videos. Apparently I’m not inspiring enough – maybe it’s because my main exercise is turning over while I’m asleep…..?????

Haha, Teddy the Terrific, your mama might just love Pahla and her VERY good advice about exercising over…er…a certain age. She has made mama into a new person and mama is DEFINITELY…er…a certain age. She’s fun and laughs at herself and makes you feel you have accomplished something and it only takes 20+ minutes of workout. Choose whatever suits your mama and just go with what she can do and if it feels wrong, don’t do it. That’s her message.
Wow, I am im-purr-essed by that lady! Something I could definitely do…and should do! LOL!
But not right now, everything I do makes me cough and wheeze…on the 6th I was diagnosed with Covid…not too sick, just a headache and chills along with the coughing. I have been banned from my work for a time, though…sigh…

OH, NO. We are so, so sorry for your covid and its awful cough! DO NOT EXERCISE, and mama wishes so much that she could send you chicken soup RIGHT NOW. She just made one for a friend up the street with a bad cold and it WORKS to heal We’ll be thinking good thoughts for you!! Damn that virus.

Loulou, I’ve been attending Tai Chi classes every Friday, and it’s so fabulous.
Sure, I’m wobbly and never know if my hands are correct, but it’s the doing that I love, and the amount of physical exercise one gets is amazing because you don’t know it’s happening.
Mama LOVES tai chi but would do it online probably, not in a group. Is your class online?
