Well, mama just got back from a visit to a friend of almost thirty five years who lives up the road in our little town, but who does not go out much any longer because her feet are really bothering her and she is afraid she might fall easily, plus she is a bit frail anyway. But mama and papa love to go up to see her and her wonderful husband and take lunch and hang out a bit. But they have trouble finding the time.
NOW HEAR THIS: Time is not LOST.
Mama’s portrait of Gigi. Wouldn’t you like to spend time with her, so twinkly and smiley?
Here’s what’s wrong with this picture: mama is too much in a hurry sometimes and thinks she’s going to just drop in and say hello and leave a magazine that the lady loves and then rush, rush, rush back home to do whatever it is that mama does, and on this particular occasion, mama was gone an hour and a half and I sort of wondered what was up, but mama came back all smiley and touched and exhilarated that she had managed to spend time with her very close friend.
I think my message here is just to go for it.
Old friends, new friends, and those you love want to be with you and spend quality time with you, and mama told me that at a certain point in the nice visit, she realized that this dear, dear friend might not be around one day to chat and laugh and enjoy lunches with and that any time she could spend with her was golden . Time to be cherished. Time that is always there if you just use it well.
I know I wrote in another blog about how mama went up to Fellini and interrupted his private coffee-after-dinner time and also went over to a famous soccer player’s table at a restaurant and another time, went right up to Jack Palance, the actor, to tell him how much she loved his films, and after all of these times she was so, so glad to have done it because Signor Fellini was dead within three months, and the others were simply happy to have someone recognize them and say something nice to them!
Remember “Shane”?
So if you ever think of hesitating when a friend asks to chat or visit with you or you hang back from going up to someone you admire, DON’T. Every minute with friends (or sometimes strangers) is precious and memorable, and I, for one, have decided to spend all of my waking hours with mama and papa so that they’ll feel happy that I purred on their heads and snuggled between them in their bed and I know they will thank me for that!
Uh, oh, waking hours?
I’m not sure I’m going to find time for that.
I absolutely LOVE the painting your Mama did of her friend Gigi, she looks like an interesting fun woman!! Your Mama is extremely talented
Well, if you saw it up close..there’s a bit of paint globs that….uh, oh, mama’s coming for me!
Loulou, this is so true. You always have to make time for friends. Thanks for reminding us.
And you are such good Island friends, you two (er…more in the family but don’t know how many).
Yes, that is so true. Time is shorter than we think, or as long as we want it to be…. But always make sure you get your naps in too!

Ah, yes, the nap times. Does not leave enough time for visiting, alas! But I’ll get by as long as I have you.
Such wisdom, Loulou – and your mama captured Gigi’s twinkliness and warmth in that portrait. Mama has recognized people while in restaurants and smiles (big) and gives them a thumbs up. They always smile back in appreciation of the positive recognition. Well, I’m going to be grumpy now – getting ready to leave for Monaco where parking is HELL and it’s raining. But old friends are there only for a day – so that’s what one does, or possibly regret if it happens to be a “too late”. Besides, they ordered doggie portraits for their grandchildren, teehee – and mama is delivering them. FUN!
CONGRATULATIONS, Mya’s mama. Wonderful to sell TWO paintings to one family. Wow. Mama might be asked to do a portrait of a gerbil, haha. And she’d botch THAT. Sorry for your rainly trip. It’s 20 degrees and sun in Collioure!
Be in the moment for what if there was no tomorrow?
Have a spectacular weekend…

Yes, every day is a new adventure. There is only today and the past is every second….
I sure would like to walk up to Nicolas Cage and tell him I love him, I mean that he is an amazing actor.
All kidding aside, that is a good idea to always let those you love know it.
Oh, this is too funny. Yes, just go for it. Write him a letter…hey, why not. He’d be tickled.
Oh LouLou, you are so right ! And the same applies for spending time with furry friends.
Yes, I only wish I could append time with some of the friends I have met on blogs….
You’re so right LouLou. Time is so short and we never know what tomrrow holds or ifin there will actually be a tomorrow. Mommy says we should live each day to it’s fullest as ifin it were our last. Ifin we do that, we’ll have no regrets in the end. Fanks fur bein’ our furiends and sharin’ a bit of your time with us. Big hugs
Luv ya’

I feel exactly the same way. Every moment is so precious, and I know you two spend yours so well with your mama. Hugs to you two, too. And your mama.
