Well, mama is really happy because The Affordable Care Act is working and right now 7,000,000 people have signed up for the health insurance plan. I am going to put in this link right now just because it’s is well-written (even I could understand it!) and perhaps many have not realized just how wonderful it is that many of the seven million have never had health care in their lives! To read more about this click http://www.hhs.gov/healthcare/rights/ and see just how easy it can be to feel safely covered even in special cases as children with a pre-existing condition or someone needing to go to an emergency room that is not on his/her health care plan. This is pretty cool, really, and I hope you take a look at the site.
Mama had to explain a bit of it to me, but actually, I have my own little kitty plan that mama got for me at our Two Ladies Vet, as I call them. Because there are two ladies there…duh…but they take very good care of me and tell me what a good kitty I am when I don’t run around the examination room or hiss at the doggies in the waiting room. I am what they call a perfect patient, but that’s only because I know full well that if I look calm and affectionate and cutesy pootsy, they will put away those thermometers (!) and ear lights (!) and NEEDLES and I can get the hello out and back into my travel box and HOME, where I’m supposed to be. But because I have regular good care, I don’t need doctors so often. Maybe that’s how The Affordable Care Act will eventually contribute to our country’s overall health.
The thing about universal care for everyone is that practically every country over here in the EU has a health plan for its citizens and–you’re going to love this–mama pays exactly 22 euros for a visit to her doctor. And papa had a small operation once, just one of those skin things, and he was in an operating room with two nurses and a surgeon and everything was beautifully handled and he went to pay and it was 100 euros and he almost fainted. That’s about 130 bucks and in America, it would have been a couple of thousand, mama says.
So I’m drinking a toast tonight for Mr. Obama and his plan that will help…well, at this point…at LEAST seven million Americans and who knows how many more when the next enrolment starts up.
Also, in my book, it’s nice to hear good news for a change. So many things in the papers I read are not very nice and every now and then, we kitties need a good, strong, positive move on this erratic earth!
She’s gonna put that thermometer WHERE? I’m outta here…
