Well, with all the press on Jerry Brown’s pay equalization, there seems to have slipped through the cracks this one very important piece of info, which mama’s niece in San Francisco sent to mama about the need for affordable housing and Governor Brown’s mishandling of a perfect solution.
Mama’s nephew worked for years with non-profit organizations who tried to find low-cost land for low-cost housing and this was definitely a blow to any possible success in the near future.
I know it’s a lot to read, but California leads in having more homeless than any other state. And I knew what it was like to be homeless…
So I guess Governor Brown gave (to the film industry) with one hand and then took away (from the homeless) with the other.
GOVERNOR VETOES TWO AFFORDABLE HOUSING BILLS
A curious aside from all this: mama goes to an open market twice a week where a homeless man sells a small local newspaper called Sans-Logis that is written and produced by a group of homeless people in this neighbourhood. And mama buys it because in it there is a poetry page with some of the most lovely poems you can imagine. I’m not a good translator of French, but I’ll put my mind to it and maybe in a day or two, I’ll put in one of the sweet poems found in the paper.
I’m just lucky to have a window to look out of!
Today’s suggestion for a blog to visit is:

How nice you have windows that come almost to the floor so you have a nice view of the patio.
Yeah, but it was RAINING and mama doesn’t like me too wet. Maybe Marcus could teach me to shake the way doggies do after rain.
Aaaaaw Fanks fur da shout out. Mommy was homeless a few times in hers life and we live in low rent housin’ now, so it’s a real shame ’bout California. But peeps not really like to talk ’bout da homeless. It’s not conversation fur polite company ya’ know?. Anyways, have a gweat day.
Luv ya’
Dezi and Lexi
Hey, Dezi and Lexi–you can talk about anything you WANT! Cause I say so. And what other people think of you is none of your business, haha. I love that!
They always promise “Oh, this building will have low income housing, TOO” when the builders here offer a new building site. Somehow, that bit of info always disappears. In my old neighborhood there is a very nice building for older low income people that USED to have a pretty view of the park. You guessed it. Now they have a lovely view of an expensive high rise!
I live in public housing. It is a beautiful building built in the 60’s. In a half commercial half residential area. And though I don’t like the commercial side of the building, I face the residential side, so I see the tops of a lot of trees! But how can all those people afford the expensive buildings? Do they not see the homeless and the poor??
What a great response. You’ll see a blog soon about a house that is available on San Vicente Blvd in LA that could be used as a halfway house or for abused people…
so at least sometimes there are things that come up. But mama’s nephew is constantly looking for low-cost property near SF for housing. An uphill battle.
