Mama says her garden isn’t like past gardens, so do I have to sit here all day waiting for her to see that there are FLOWERS. At least there are flowers!
And many, many cherry tomatoes for that bad doggy, Mya to hoover up when she gets here. I mean, really, have you ever heard of a doggy having a passion for CHERRY TOMATOES? Weird…
Hey, it takes all kinds, right?
And how about THESE babies? Okay, okay, there are only two, but what the heck, a lot of green ones are coming along.
Uh, oh. Not quite up to par. Mama says, “YOU CALL THIS A COURGETTE?” It’s more like a very small cigar, I have to admit, but hey, it’s growing. The other squash plant folded! And mama says she’s never met ANYONE who can’t grow SQUASH! Hey, mama, a first time for everything…
And we WILL have kiwis by Christmas.
Sage, we will never lack. Cook the leaves in olive oil until crisp, salt and eat. Sage is magical and keeps away all sorts of baddies, they say, whoever THEY are.
Hurrah!!! Mama grew some weeds!
You’ve got kiwis growing? That’s cool.
Yes, this year hundreds of kiwis and they are SOOOOOO good, but I love the leaves.
oh LouLou!! That last photo made Mama laugh!!!! She loves it! My Mom thinks your garden is LOVELY!!!! And…we know of another woofie who likes tomatoes! Go figure! xoxo
Wow, two tomato woofies! They should hook up and hoover up mama’s garden. They are dropping daily because she can’t pick them fast enough!
Loulou, that is a BEAUTIFUL portrait-photo of you and those white flowers!!!! Mama pulled it off the site as a “keeper” – and those cherry tomatoes – ZOWEEEEE!!!! Yes, that’s moi – Mya the Badass !!! I will attack them with the great force and energy and appetite I am known for!!! Can’t wait to see YOU!!!!
Hey, Mya, you are one hot tomato you self, you badass doggy. More tomatoes are falling so you’ll be stuffed before long. Just don’t break out in hives the way mama did when she ate so many tiny yellow tomatoes in her garden in LA that the doc said, “What on earth have you been eating?”So she stopped and was fine. But when you eat a gazillion yellow tomatoes, you get what you deserve, I told mama.
I was just telling my husband we should grow sage. We have a lot of oregano and basil. Nice to see you in the garden LouLou.
Oh, toasted sage leaves are the best–in beans, in soups, over pasta, and the sage is the biggest attraction for bees in mama’s garden. They LOVE sage. It also keeps bad spirits away……..
I did not know you could just saute sage and eat it by itself ! All kinds of good vibes. Hurrah for tomatoes !
Yes, it gets cruncy when crisped in olive oil, but is best mixed in with a bit of melted butter over ravioli, one of Italy’s simple but exquisie dishes. Makes nice bouquets, too. And a small compact bundle is given to those who have moved into a new house to burn in each room to clear out the old bad vibes that might be lurking and bring in the new ones of the new dwellers. Sage rocks.
Tu as tres belle in that flower garden, Loulou! You have a green paw & your momma a green thumb! My mom grows lots of pretty flowers, but no veggies. She had a small veggie garden a few years back, but it didn’t do well. She wants to know if your momma would share her recipe for good garden soil for growing such fine looking veggies?
Mama uses a thing called dried straw…paille in French…not HAY, but straw. Any feed place will have straw as they use it for chicken nests and such. So a very deep coating of straw on the garden feeds it from the bottom as it rots and the top keeps the plants from being too hot or too dry or too cold. MULCH, MULCH, MULCH is what mama says for a good garden. Even bad soil will become rich over time.
