Oh, boy, mama and I just finished a wonderful book called The Inner Life of Cats by Thomas McNamee, which left mama in tears and me, well, blinking slow signals to mama about how much I love her and papa.
A lovely book, covering all you would ever need to know about how to have your kitty become a loving and responsive member of your family. I think I must have been very lucky when small, because when I found mama and papa that day in the garden as I searched for food, I felt that I was truly home and would be looked after and fed and talked to and played with and I never looked back. I had been living in the wood storage bin outside my house, and I have never really figured out how I came to be there other than that some summer rental family dropped me off when they left after their vacation. Then again, perhaps a family who could not keep me any longer just put me out and hoped I would be found. It was very strange.
At this age, I was NOT used to anthros snapping pics of me. Here I am on the first day of being in my new home.
A little scared, I’m sure, but my fur was nice, even if I had lost some teeth, and I had been sort of…er…fixed, but not all the way so that was done again and I lolled on the couch with good behaviour until my wound healed.
But this in-depth book on kitties was very, very moving. The way we animals are treated sometimes was a part mama couldn’t read so we fast forwarded to the next part. Still, so much amazing information about us kitties was even a surprise to ME! And I put my little paw over on mama’s hand quite often when we sleep next to one another. I wonder if I can use my tail to talk in my sleep…Isabel does (the author’s cat after Augusta)? That was such a sweet chapter…
(Best to get me before breakfast or dinner when I’m really in the mood to throttle something.)
I do need to play more, however, and with a bit of arthritis starting up, I don’t wish to climb as often as I did on The Rock (which I loved!). Maybe I’ll try again just to see how I fare. But thank you so much, Dr. McNamee, for your insightful and touching research on one of the world’s great wonders: KITTIES. Okay, okay, doggies, too, and parrots and hamsters and turtles and whatever…
Rock climbers RULE! Here I am ladying it over the world below, haha. Get it? LORDING? Okay, bad joke.
Just don’t let your pet python lie down next to you over a period of a few days. Especially when he’s (she’s?) hungry…Remember? He’s measuring you………
That is so cool that the rock is inside your house! This is very unusual for a home in the US, but it is way cool. We hope your joints get better so you can climb again!
Oh, my Mr. Rock is inside our house in France. I know what you mean, it’s pretty weird for ANY house, if you ask me!
LouLou I bet your mama and papa could put their heads together and figure something that could be placed next to your rock – some kind of steps – so you could get up to the top of your rock. If they were clever enough to give you a home anything is possible. Love Lily Henry & Jane
Hey, there is a ladder there already if I could just learn to use it. Thank you for the suggestions. I’m off to case the climber!
Loulou, So enjoyed the story of how you found your Mama and Papa. Like your Mama, I would have to scroll quickly through those parts of the book too. Glad the other parts added even more incite (sp?) into your life. By understanding how all of us work (dogs, humans–parrots, hamsters, turtles, too) we can better care for and appreciate one another. Sending lots of love.
Merci pour ta visite! Et le blog extraordinaire aujourdoui. Love the great information about Corsica on your great blog. French-Word-A-Day.com. I’ve learned alot of my French through your experiences and lively stories.
Kristin, I think I answered this, so am checking my wordpress replies, but I hope our dear readers will take a look at French-Word-A-Day where I learned so much of my additional French. Merci pour ton blog et pour me visiter. Bonjour to your lovely doggy, too.
awwww, Loulou, you were (and are) so irresistible, who could not take you in and make you a princess!!?? It was a match made to be – and when that happens, you go with the flow – because that’s how karma works. That sounds like a wonderful book but mama’s afraid to read it because she’ll get all emotional about that baddest cat ever – Sassy, who ruled the house (and the 2 doggies, Pepper and Rosita part of that time) for over 20 years! From New Orleans to Paris to Collioure. No one ever questioned who ran the show. Like chez vous, huh? As it should be!
Hey, we talk about princesses….where did “queen”go???
hehheh – the Queen was Pepper after he got neutered……
Oh, you are so funny. Peppe was really the cat’s meow, haha.
Ah, the old arthritis. Yes, is does slow us all down eventually. But we’re happy you have such a great home!
I think many kitties get joint trouble, but antiflammatories aren’t good for my tummy. Fish oil is being tried…
I loved that book too, (I reviewed it a few months ago on the blog), it was just superb!
OH, Caren, I missed that and I’m so sorry, but I’m so glad mama read it to me now. What an amazingly empathetic and wise anthro is that author!
Oh LouLou – I had never heard your backstory before ! How onderful for you that your Mama and Papa found you and took care of you so well then and continue to do so ! It’ s a bit like winning the lottery, isn’t it !
Hopefully between Mama and the vet and some of your readers you can find something to help your leg feel better .
The vet told us it’s mild but I have trouble going up stairs. Down is easy and I go very fast but I want to climb my rock!
That certainly sounds like a good read, Loulou. Oh yes, we kitties are the word’s greatest wonders! I love the pics of you & especially marvel in you on the top of those rocks! Is that in your backyard?! Mom can’t believe you were fixed twice?! Hugs!
Well, the first ‘fix’ was botched, it seems and so my new vet said, uh, oh, there is still some possibility in there to have kitties and it’s not a good idea and so I was repaired a bit. Sometimes those things are not done well and one doesn’t know until it’s too late.
That rock is in mama’s office!!! It used to be an outside room before we got here and then the sellers made it into an indoor room and we put in a skylight and voila’. The rock is part of the rock that the house is built on and into. And it’s alive and grows ferns and things and sometimes weeps in wet weather. I loved climbing it until my leg started giving out a bit.
