This won’t take long, right? A few hundred truffles? No time at all, right?
Well, let’s let MAMA get cookin’. This year she wants to make her presents because it’s more fun and sometimes they taste better when homemade and of course, I can help enormously after that pot of chocolate truffle mix is practically (read: completely) empty and she gives me a tiny, tiny, the tinest lick on the spoon.
I know, I know, chocolate is not good for four-legged creatures (oh, yeah, and how about birds and others?) but an itsy bitsy lick can’t really hurt anyone, right?
So here I am all ready for the little aftermath of present-making. Oh, boy, can’t wait. Oh, boy, she’s almost done. Oh, boy, just another couple of seconds…
Oh, great. She has decided to make fruitcakes!!! Arggg……..
Dear Santa, do you know how to make truffles?
Fruitcakes are a lot of work. And I bet your Mama makes them great.
Well, this is panettone and bread is right down her alley, wherever that is.
Hey, no bad mouthing fruitcakes. Jan LOVES fruitcake! So everybody who doesn’t want their fruitcake can send them to Jan. our address is the Funny Farm.
And now Jan is feeling a bit sad because she is missing her mother and the delicious rum fuitcakes they used to share for Christmas.
But they are nice memories, so enjoy making memories with your mom, Loulou. You never know but she will bake you some chicken bread for the holiday.
WOW CHICKEN BREAD CHICKEN BREAD!!!!!!! WHAT A GRAND IDEA. I wish Jan’s mama was with her. Our mama can be her mama on Thursday and we’ll all think about Jan together.
Our mommy must be a crazy person. She loves fruitcake and used to make one every year. They must have rum to be good. She thinks maybe she’ll make one this year. Truffles, however, are at the top of her noms list for good things. XOCK, Lily Olivia Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Personally I agree. We have a friend who sends a rum fruit cake, homemade and you are RIGHT! But fruitcake jokes are hard to avoid at holidays. We actually really DID find one in my grandpapa’s little bar closet one year after a year of resting there. Unfortunately, someone forgot to put the rum on it periodically.
Oh dear…and yet, a GOOD fruitcake is wonderful. The trouble is it is so hard to do. But your Mama may be experienced enough to pull it off. My Mama was an excellent pie baker, but after my Grandpa died she did not bake nearly as many pies and she lost her touch. Of course, one could lose one’s touch for making truffles too…(sigh)
HEY, NO WAY. All you do is scrunch up some chocolate stuff in a ball and throw it into dark chocolate cocoa. Piece of cake, haha. Yes, good fruitcakes are really plum puddings that have been made into cake. And papa LOVES plum pudding, which mama makes each year.
Oh no, all that anticipation and let down at the last minute. My mum would be disappointed too because she loves truffles, but she doesn’t like anything with dried fruit in it.
Well, mama uses her own candied orange and tangerine peel and then raisins and nuts and really good candied apricots and makes tbe bread called panettone, but yrs, those fruity fruitcakes are not on the favorites list.
I understand that. But panettone is different and mama makes her own fruits from fresh one. Still, chocolate is chocolate.
MOL Oh LouLou you are so adorable. We luv your fotos. They fur sure tell da story. MOL But, Furuit cakes? Doesn’t your mommy know dat nopawdy wants furuit cakes? MOL Mommy says she finds it so funny, dat ’round da holidays furuit cakes are advertised everywhere. Send as gift, buy fur yourself, etc. And yet when she was growin’ up everypawdy talked ’bout how pawful furuit cakes were how peeps used to gift and regift them over and over again. How they was da hardest nastiest things ’round. Now mind you, mommy has never tasted a furuit cake. Dat’s right, not even a little taste. Mostly she diesn’t like furuit, specially in her cake, but also cuz she ‘members da horrific stories told to her when she was a kid. So we’re with you, bring on da chocolate truffles. (we’ve never had those either.) MOL Big hugs to all.
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
There is always the story of a fruitcake lost at Christmas and found the next year and no one wants to open the can…
