Well, not really messy in the sense of MESSY, because it really was a great match and I love the real Messi, but everything looked as if it were going pretty slowly in the beginning and then things took off after the half. Papa says that the strong teams like Germany and Argentina just play pretty often at the same effective pace while the smaller teams they are playing throw themselves into the game at the beginning and wear themselves out by the second half, but in the overtime play, I saw both of these teams really doing well as if they were in a cutthroat game of pin ball. Back and forth the ball went, over and over, creating a really exciting tension. I wanted to be rubbed or at least given a little treat, what with all the energy I was expending, but papa just patted me on the nose and said, “Loulou, lie down, I’m busy watching this amazing match!”
And so I did.
Unfortunately, I was snoozing when, in the last 4 minutes of the second fifteen minutes overtime, Messi passed a beauty to Angel di Maria (aptly named!) and di Maria put a long, sure shot right into the far corner of the net. This was one of the rare times that mama and papa were rooting for opposite teams, but mama told me it was just for fun anyway, and she happens to love watching Messi and so it went.
Now we’re into the USA/Belgium game and there will be more news later tonight, but frankly, much as I adore soccer, I adore my kibble more…
SO PUT SOME IN THE DISH! It’s halftime!!!
NOW!!! Or things really WILL get “messi”, haha.
Game over: 0-0. OVERTIME AGAIN!!! Mama has picked me up and we’re going to bed. She can’t take 30 minutes more of this stress, so I’ll try to calm her down until morning. Or until she wakes straight up out of sleep to see if we pulled it off. Unfortunately, it would be miraculous, but these things happen. I’ll cross my paws for the USA to pull it off.
