MORE INFO ON THE NASTIE NEWS
Well, mama forgot to mention that if you have nasties in the garden, they will eventually attract (or do here!) pucerons, aphids! BUT, our garden guru said not to worry, because if the nasties have the aphids, your other plants will NOT! That’s pretty cool, no?
We were reminded of that when we heard from Mary McNeil about luring the hummingbird out of the garage with a basket of nasties.
So those sweet nasties have all sorts of perks that come with them, haha.
Mama is off to make pesto and then cut a bouquet for the lunch table.
Life is sweet.
I don’t know about nasties, but I do know that ladybugs visit our garden and eat the aphids before they can do harm to mom’s fav rose bush.
OH, mama is ordering them today, what a coincidence. But she has ordered them every year for aphids.
Aphids are nastie!
Ha ha dat’s a goot one!
Wowza! How nice of Nasties to allow themselves to be aphid magnets so other plants don’t get infested. They are brave AND pretty then.
Hugs, Teddy
Aw, that’s so kind. Yes, they take the rap!! And the aphids take the sap, haha.
What a bonus, Loulou. I know all about this atrocious aphids.
Well, it’s odd that I have them ONLY on nasties and fava beans! And only after the beans are ready for harvest and have been picked and the plants are dying…thank heaven!
Lulu, you rock! We don’t have any aphids …yet…I am sure we will have them later!
Hey, another solution, no pun intended, is savon noir, black soap solution, to be found at nurseries near you. Safe and aphids hate it.
WELL, Mamma had to look up aphids!!! YIKES! But maybe the birds will eat them?! You and I wouldn’t since we like kibble and treats – we are picky, huh?
Well, if we liked aphids, we’d be having a feast on these nasties.
They are very pretty flowers. XO
And versatile…
I really thought it was the orange color that drew the hummy out of the garage…he didn’t stop to drink, I don’t think They sure love the orange-flowered jewel weed that grows all over anywhere it’s damp. Since the juice in its stems is also good to sooth poison ivy and itchy insect bites it is a jewel to have around.
We have never heard of jewel weed and yes, it was probably the color. Hummers LOVE color. Thanks for the jewel weed tip.
I had no idea that hummingbirds could be lured, and no idea why a hummy would go in a garage in the first place – what a strange thing for a hummy to do. You get fresh pesto, I am so very jealous! I think you have inspired me to go out to the garden and snip some fresh basil. Have a wonderful day LouLou.
Pesto is so easy…Whiz up garlic, basil, a few drops of lemon, olive oil and salt. Mama adds grilled almonds. Voila!
Those Phids are good for what ails plants as they eat a LOT and OFTEN. Who knew?
Sounds like us! Eating a lot and often that is.
Life is indeed sweet.
Have a purrfect Thankful Thursday, Loulou. ♥
I sure didn’t know hummingbirds liked the Nasties! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
We didn’t either! You’re welcome.
Loulou, don’t eat the flowers in the table!
I do NOT eat flowers if they are not made of kibble. Don’t worry.
