The dear Ann Adamus sent this and so it’s posted today on my blog for others to see.

I’m having middle of the winter doldrums, I think.  The weather is sunny and bright, if cold, the winds have abated, the lemon tree is heavy with lovely bright yellow jewels, the stock pot is simmering with carrots and celery and the duck carcass that came from our open market’s rotisserie man’s wonderful fare–ribs, birds, sausages, quail and so many other tempting items.

But even thought we eat mostly vegetables and pasta, mama still uses stocks for cooking–beans, soups, stews, you name it.

In the winter garden, there are fava bean flowers bursting out on short stalks but they are growing daily, as I can tell by standing up against one and measuring myself;  parsley abounds, along with thyme and sage and lemon thyme and roquette (arugula), not to mention the tiny buds popping out on mama’s roses.

So why the gloom?  Good question.  I think it’s because we move around a little too much and I for one really want to tuck into my comforter and BE in winter, the way every good kitty should be.  HIBERNATING.

Preparing to hibernate.

I think I’ll suggest that to mama–she need some hiber

nating herself every now and again.

But meanwhile, I’ll just go ahead and do it for her.

Doing it.
