Oh, sadness. For the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral , burning and burning and burning…
Why was it so hard to contain? Why weren’t there more firefighters in that huge city? Did they have planes with water as are used over forest fires?
Unimaginable, the loss of priceless history and art and sculpture, forever.
Nothing but sadness here today.
Catastrophe is too small a word.
We were glued to the TV all the evening, watching that incredible and sad event, unable to believe that it was real. Sad, so sad… Purrs
Yes but there are such big contributions for the rebuilding of the cathedral and that’s a very positive note.
We saw that news the first thing this morning and were thinking of the terrible loss and sadness the world is feeling. Purrs of support friend
Thank you. We are not French but feel so terrible for our adopted home and the French people.
Awww LouLou my heart goes out to you all. Notre Cathedral was so spectacular and iconic. I know they will restore it, but you are right all that priceless art and history gone forever. Incredibly sad.
I hope so much that they saved more than we know.
Choquant. Terrible.
Et bien qu’aucune perte humaine ne soit à déplorer, c’est un désastre.
Tristesse.
Oui, tristesse-issimo.
We were in shock! Sitting in front of the tv waiting for Macron’s speech and watching the pundits discussing what he would say and the images of smoke – then FIRE and the destruction. It went too fast – and 400 firemen were on hand. What happened, REALLY? We’re upearly getting ready to read the news. Probably won’t be good……. the most visited European landmark, centuries old with all those treasures. Sad times.
Oh, Mya, the treasures, priceless, but there was a line of people passing things out of the cathedral so there were some things saved.
I saw that on the news tonight, simply heartbreaking. Hopefully all of the questions will be answered.
I think there will be a very thorough examination of the whole event!
So terrible that I could scarcely believe my eyes. Have only been there twice but such an extraordinary experience. And to have survived the revolution and two world wars and now this. Yes, nothing but sadness and grief.
850 years of treasures, and the emotions of millions in the walls, their breath in the very air over centuries. Unimaginable.
Sad, sad, sad, such a loss.
Yes, but hopes for rebuilding and so many pledges. Big ones.
At this hour (7:14 pm EDT) they HAVE been able to save some of it. We watched in sadness – it was like 9/11 except – so mercifully – (so far) no loss of life. Our hearts go out to all of you.
Yes, only one fireman, thank heaven. But the shock went around the world. And yes, many things were saved.
That is so sad.
Unimaginable.
We’ve been reading the news. It’s all over the internet and facebook. Such a sad thing to happen. 🙁
I try to think of the two towers that were saved and that helps a bit. Also the stonework.
This is SO sad…..
Yes, tristesse.
