I hope these answers help.
Well, here is what a paw-paw is, as lots of people have asked about them. I think they actually taste pretty good, according to mama, but the seeds get in the way a bit.
Our Hawaiian friend says they are akin to papayas, but frankly, I think the Hawaiian ones win. There may be some in your neighbourhood! Paw paws, I mean, not papayas.
MOL MOL MOL! My Mom wants to move to Hawaii!
YES, papayas everywhere, all over the place. And so many other great foods…FISH, for example.
Paw-paws? I thought that would be a grandfather living in Appalachia? And yes, I hear a lot of them are quite seedy. And it would taste like a papaya? I am so confused. hmmmm – I’ll stick to kibbles and a chew-stick. YOU, lucky kitty, get to eat that really god stuff that’s like paté. ooooh, I am so jealous……………….
Pate on the po-po, haha. Just kidding. bad joke.
Wow, that’s a new one on me – the fruit pictured is called custard fruit in Australia.
The Australian PawPaw is a much larger papaya, and as I responded in our last email, it is much more bland tasting.
It’s like the fruit called Lillikoi in Hawai, in Australia it’s called Passion Fruit – because of the very intricate and beautiful flowers from which the fruit grows. It’s great with plain yogurt – my son as a young one really loved that for breakfast or lunch.
Mama has eaten paw paws, papayas and passion fruits and they are all different and she loves papayas best…Custard apples are another thing and were indigenous to Mexico, I think, and they are pretty good too, but grow who knows where—California, for sure. And they are custardy inside.
I doubt I would find those around here.
Not easily found anywhere for that matter and no one seems to care, haha.
I did not realize the two were related ! Now I need to find some to try (probably in the form of jelly, around NE Ohio in February.)
Oh, boy, paw-paw jelly. Sound very good on roast chicken!
Ah, papayas. So good for the digestion. And paw paws are related to them? Thanks for the link to an explanation. Jan says she’s never come across any. 🙁
Well, they are from mama’s childhood and she’s not even sure she identified the right ones…http://www.blossomnursery.com/pawpaw_HABITAT.html has more info. And from the map, they do not grow in Texas so mama must have had them somewhere else.
Have you been runnin’ ’round in da paw paw patch LouLou? We don’t have any paw paws here, we think da oak trees choke everythin’ else out. But we do hope you get to enjoy a bite. And mommy says fank you fur her goody basket. We’ll be postin’ a fank you this Blest Sunday. As always, we luv your fotos. You look so adorable. Mommy says you look like quite da little chatter box. Don’t worry, dat’s a compliment; we’re chatter boxes too. MOL Big hugs fur all.
Luv ya’

Oh, I can just HEAR you two going at it. Must drive your mama nutsy, but I’ll bet you have sweet little voices. Mine is very soft and sweet except when I’m about to throw up on a boat, haha.
