Playing casually to get attention…for some bird later…
I think there is another name for pintade, guinea hen, and this baby was range-free, as are many birds in France. They scratch and dig and are fed organic corn so mama feels (sort of) better about their demise.
You know, mama used to rip the insides out of birds, taught by her grandmother, and she unwittingly plunged three wild gift ducks into hot water, thinking the feathers would come off.
Guess what…?
No way, Jose. But now, in a more difficult world, mama has trepidations about having anything die. I tell her, “mama, those San Marzano tomatoes are crying out to be picked, they WANT to be sauce, it is their destiny”, and I think she listens. And the food chain is the food chain. Humane raising is what we need perhaps.
Maybe mama is just getting a bit soft in her…later…years. But hey, guess what?
We have a lot of SAUCE around here, haha.
HAPPY TURKEY/CHICKEN/VEGETABLES/GRAINS/WHATEVER DAY!
I’m squiggling around on the bed in a sun puddle, trying to be cutesy pootsy for a piece of bird!!!
I hope you got a little taste of bird, Loulou. ~Ernie
I got it, I got it.
Loulou my Mom feels like your Mom about the food chain needing to be a “kinder” place. Yet our relatives did serve a magnificent turkey yesterday and Mom says it was delish. She brought home leftovers BUT I am not a fan of bird. She and Dad can enjoy the leftovers. Mom says her green bean casserole she took was a big hit so I’m proud of her. We hope your Thanksgiving was fabulous and that YOU my friend got some bird of your own!!!
Hugs, Teddy
I did, I did, a bit of guinea fowl, whatever that is. It’s pretty so even more difficult for mama….but it was WONDERFUL.
Loulou, our Mammas are so much alike! Mamma starts to tear up when she sees a bird laying in the street. Often the HUGE white birde (goelands) eat them. When they can’t get into the garbage bins. And I found a baby rat (dead) and Mamma teared up. I didn’t – thought it was MEAT – LOL!
Well, we are on short strings after two years of being wary, and now there is a new variant…we all have to be very careful and follow the news. Poor little birdies…and rat,
Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for your friendship. XO
Oh, boy, as are we for YOURS. So much to be thankful for. I was thankful for the guinea fowl liver…
You do look comfy Loulou, Happy Thanksgiving from all of us!
And back to all of you, Mr brian
When we lived on a farm (when I was a kid) my Mom dreaded having to pluck ducks. The water-proofing apparently makes them more difficult than chickens. Hope you had a good feast.
I had a lovely liver, but mama concentrating on the swiss chard and corn bread stuffing. Today we fast. I will slow.
Loulou, as long as you get a taste, then you are a happy cat, no?
Due to Covid, we are not visiting the family for Thanksgiving Day meal, but we’ll still talk via phone.
And turkey was roasted and ground up for cat food; Manny, for one, is totally addicted to the stuff.
What a grand idea. MAMA! Get out the grinder! You were all wise to stay in. So important
